ANALYSIS
Week 7 presents the first of four meetings between these teams. It's the biggest test yet for the Strike Force, as they head to Arizona's capital to face the Rattlers. San Diego has been competitive at times this season, but has yet to put together a full 60-minute performance. They found themselves in a 24-14 halftime deficit out of which they were never fully able to dig last week against the Tucson Sugar Skulls. The Strike Force will look to cut down on turnovers and penalties as they seek their first win of the 2019 season. The Rattlers will be without QB Verlon Reed, Jr., who was lost for the season due to a leg injury suffered last week Jeff Ziembia, who had been splitting time with Reed, will take over as the team's permanent starter. Ziemba led the Rattlers to the playoffs last season after Reed went down to injury in week 1. In a statement win last week, the Rattlers took care of the Sioux Falls Storm while capitalizing on four Storm turnovers.
San Diego's offense is led by one of the best passers in indoor football, Derrick Bernard, who leads the IFL with 196.6 passing yards per game. He's completing 51.2 percent passes with a league second-best 17 touchdowns, but he also leads the IFL in interceptions with 11.. Look for George Moreira, Jr. to get some carries in this one as he and Bernard each have five rushing touchdowns on the season. Julian Stafford has been outstanding in the receiving corps this season, catching 26 passes for 361 yards. His 72.2 receiving yards per game and nine touchdown grabs are good for second best in the IFL. Marques Rodgers isn't far behind with 66.0 receiving yards per game and five scores. David Carter's 16 catches for 171 yards round out the group. Mikell Mair paces the defense with 27 tackles, while Terrence Fullum has 17 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and the team's lone sack. The Strike Force defense has only one turnover, a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown back in week 2. The group will look to be opportunistic against a talented Rattlers' offense. Ernesto Lacayo is a perfect 28 of 28 on extra point attempts and is five of 10 from field goal range with a long of 31 yards.
Arizona is making an early case to be top seed in the playoffs. Ziemba comes in having completed 74.3 percent of his pases for 339 yards with four touchdowns and three pick. He also has rushed for four touchdowns, including a 10-yarder on a quarterback draw last week against the Storm. Jabre Lolley is one of the more talented running backs in the IFL. He has amasses 262 yards off 42 carries and is tied for second in the league with 10 touchdown runs. With the absence of Reed, Lolley will likely be relied upon to lead the running attack. Jarrod Harrington has caught 13 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns, and Anthony Amos has seven receptions for 125 yards and two scores. Speedy WR Dezmon Epps has left to play for the AFL's Washington Valor, which opens a whole which likely will be filled by Jamal Miles. Davontae Merriweather comes in with 29 tackles, three pass break ups, two fumble recoveries and an interception Ricky Wyatt, Jr. has 27 tackles and a team-high 2.5 sacks. Allen Chapman and Phillip Henry each have recorded a pair of interceptions. Jimmy Camacho has converted on 32 of 25 extra point tries and one of two of his field goal attempts.
