ANALYSIS
This game could turn out to be a good one. The Strike Force, who have lost their first six game, return home looking for their first win. The River Kings are looking for their first win since week 3. That single win came in Cedar Rapids against the Strike Force in week 3. Cedar Rapids outscored San Diego 20-7 in the third quarter to assume a 48-27 lead and held on for the 64-48 win. It was a season-high in points for the River Kings. Kurt Palandech threw for 143 yards and five touchdowns, and Nathaniel Chavious rushed for 75 yards and three scores in the win for the River Kings. George Moreira, Jr. rushed for two touchdowns, and Julian Stafford caught four passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns for the Strike Force in the loss. Last week, the River Kings kept close with the Iowa Barnstormers through three quarters before falling, 59-48. The Strike Force fared even worse, as they gave up an Arizona Rattlers franchise high 91 points in a 33-point loss to the Rattlers. These teams are headed by the same ownership group, based out of California.
Palandech has had a decent season for the River Kings. He's completing 62.7 percent of his passes for 133.3 yards per game; good for fifth best in the IFL. He's tossed 15 touchdowns against four interceptions. He also rushes for 37.7 yards per game with three trips to the end zone. Nathaniel Chavious is averaging 5.2 yards per carry. He's rushed 57 times for 294 yards and eight touchdowns. Kalif Phillips could also see some time in the offensive backfield. Marquel wade is a threat as a wide receiver, kick returner and even as a ball carrier out of the backfield. He has team highs of 29 receptions for 337 yards and seven touchdown. He's scored two rushing touchdowns and one on a kickoff return. Jordan Smith is averaging nearly three catches a game with three touchdowns. In just two games, Drake White has caught seven pases for 81 yards and three touchdowns. Malik Slater leads the way for the Cedar Rapids defense with his 39 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. Travonti "Tuff" Johnson has 25 tackles and three pass break ups and two fumble recoveries. Nick Brassell and Ricky Johnson each have interceptions, while Jeff Branch leads the team with 5.5 tackles for loss. Phillip Nwosu was six of seven on extra point attempts, but did not convert a field goal in his first River Kings game last week.
The Strike Force are eager for their first win in franchise history. Avenging their week 3 loss to the River Kings could be just the ticket. Derrick Bernard leads the league with 183.7 passing yards per game. He's second in the IFL with 20 touchdowns and first with 12 interceptions. Bernard also has rushed for six scores. Backup Jiha Vercher completed seven of 11 passes last week for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns and a pick. Moreira has recorded seven touchdowns on the ground this season. San Diego has a talented group of receivers, led by Stafford's 29 catches for 399 yards and 10 touchdowns, which is second in the IFL. Marques Rodgers is just behind him with 27 grabs for 396 yards and six TD catches, and David Carter rounds out the group with 20 grabs for 223 yards and a score. The Strike Force are the only team having three receivers with 20 or more receptions. Mikell Mair comes in with 28 tackles and a fumble recovery to lead the team. Terrence Fullum has the team's lone sack and 3.5 tackles for loss, and Omar Cook enters this one with the team's only interception, as well as a team-high eight pass break ups. Ernesto Lacayo is the only IFL kicker who has yet to miss an extra point, and he's done it in 34 attempts. He's hit five of 12 field goal kicks with a long of 31 yards.
