ANALYSIS
This one should turn out to be an entertaining contest. Statistically, the teams match up pretty well. The Sugar Skulls score just a single point more per game than the Steamwheelers, while Quad City allows just a fraction of a point to opponents this season. The Sugar Skulls are coming off their first home loss of the season, to burgeoning in-state rival Arizona. They've dropped two straight and are looking to get back on the plus side of .500 as they enter the second half of the season. The playoffs and, perhaps, home field advantage, are in reach for the expansion Sugar Skulls. The Steamwheelers have lost three straight, including both games of a back-to-back to the Green Bay Blizzard in which both went down to the final seconds. They are coming off a bye and look to be rejuvenated as the battle for a playoff spot. The Steamwheelers are 1-2 at home and could pull to within a game of the .500 plateau.
The two-headed quarterback attack continues for the Sugar Skulls. Matt Behrendt has completed 62.1 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. He also has rushed 34 times for 186 yards and three scores. Jake Medlock comes in with a 57.3 completion percentage with 614 yards, 11 touchdowns and a trio of picks. He's also rushed for six touchdowns on the season. Mike Jones has emerged as the go-to running back with his 50.2 yards per game (third in the IFL) and nine touchdowns. Jones has come on over the past few weeks. Jones also is a capable receiver out of the backfield with 10 catches for 109 yards and two scores. Former Rattler Shadrach Thornton is back and could figure into the mix as well. Shaq Curenton leads the team with 16 receptions for 251 yards and six touchdowns, and Rico Brown has 11 catches for 162 yards and four touchdowns. Zach Allen comes in with a staggering 52 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and is tied for second in the league with four sacks. Cam Gaddis and Dee Maggitt, Jr. each have recorded an interception for the Sugar Skulls on the season. Diego Marquez who was one of 14 on field goal tries, has been replaced with IFL veteran Josh Gable.
E.J. Hilliard leads the IFL with 170.8 passing yards per game and 24 touchdown tosses. He's completed 61.7 percent of his passes and has thrown a single interception. Hilliard also has rushed 42 rushes for 222 yards with four touchdowns. Carlos Wiggins, Zavier Steward and backup quarterback Dillon Turner should expect to see some carries in this one. The Steamwheelers boast a pair of the top receivers in the IFL. Keyvan Rudd leads the team with 24 receptions for 409 yards and has nine touchdowns. His 68.2 receiving yards are third in the league. Quinton Pedroza enters this game with 22 catches for 281 yards and a team-high 11 touchdowns. Turner has also been used as a receiver this season. Denzel McDaniel has 58 tackles for an average of 9.7 per game, which is first in the IFL. La'Kel Bass has 30 tackles, and Robert Jones is tied for second in the IFL with four sacks, and Everett Nicholas V has picked off opposing quarterbacks twice through the Steamwheelers' first six games of the season. Jacob Stytz is back with the team after being recalled from short-term IR. He has made 14 of 17 point after tries and one of four field goal attempts with that make being of 45 yards.
