ANALYSIS
This could be the most intriguing match up of week 10 in the Indoor Football League, and the main reason for that is that these teams have history in another league. Both moved over from Champions Indoor Football during the off season. This will be their first IFL meeting. They met twice last season in the CIF; their only historical meetings. The road team won both games, with the Bucks claiming a 44-42 win on March 23, 2018 in Moline, and the Steamwheelers winning 45-32 in overtime on May 5, 2018 in Bismarck. But, the comparisons end there. This is a new league and a new opportunity for each team. The Bucks have struggled this season, but were able to come out on top of the River Kings last week in Cedar Rapids. The Steamwheelers got back on track in their quest for an IFL playoff spots with a 72-54 decision over the Sugar Skulls in Tucson. The Bucks, who are not out of contention for a playoff spot, are looking for some respectability while the Steamwheelers are intent on playing past week 17 of the IFL season. While on paper this could look like an easy pick 'em, counting out the Bucks could be a mistake; a trap game if you will, for a team such as Quad City.
E.J. Hilliard, who was a member of that Quad City team last season, is leading the IFL in most passing categories. He is averaging 181.7 passing yards per game and is atop the IFL with 29 touchdown passes. He's completing 63.6 percent of his passes and has thrown just a single interception this season. Hilliard also leads the team in rushing with 226 yards off 47 carries with six rushing scores. What the Steamwheelers need is a compliment out of the backfield as no rusher is averaging more than 11 yards per carry. They may have found him in the form of Zavier Steward. The bullish rusher has appeared in only two games, but has scored four rushing touchdowns in them. The Steamwheelers possess one of the IFL's most potent receiving tandems in Quinton Pedroza and Keyvan Rudd. The duo are third and fourth with 64.9 and 64.6 yards per game, respectively. Additionally, Pedroza is tied for the lead in touchdown receptions with 14. Rudd is fourth in the IFL with 10 touchdown receptions. Steward and Carlos Wiggins are also threats out of the backfield. Danzel McDaniel is second in the IFL in tackles with 64, while Robert Jones is tied for third in the league with four sacks. Jones also has 10 tackles for loss. Keith Lewis comes in with a trio of pass break ups. Jacob Stytz is 23 of 27 on point after attempts and two of five on his field goal attempts with a long of 41 yards.
The Bucks have utilized both their quarterbacks this season, but it appears Homer Causey has become their more favored option. He comes into this one completing 50 percent of his passes for 528 yards with 11 touchdowns and give interceptions. He leads the team in rushing with 51 carries for 162 yards and five scores. John Gibbs is completing 41 percent of his throws for 405 yards with five touchdowns and four picks. He is rushing for 5.5 yards per carry with four scores. Like the Steamwheelers, the Bucks have been looking for a go to back all season. Preston Hamlette just might be their guy in short-yardage situations with a pair of touchdowns through seven games. Mike Tatum is one of the best receivers and kick returners in the history of the IFL. He has 21 catches for 281 yards and three touchdowns, as well as three trips to the end zone on the ground. Frederick Abraham has caught 18 passes for 205 yards and five touchdowns. With Brandynn Clark on short term IR, the Bucks will likely turn to William Gibbs and Alex Wheat Jr. to round out the group. Jammeron Johnson leads Bucks active players with 28 tackles. Latreze Mushatt has two sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss, while Lynn Williams has recovered a pair of fumbles. Cody Barber made his Bucks debut last week, hitting four of five of his extra point attempts, but was unable to convert on his only field goal attempt.
