ANALYSIS
May begins with a tasty matchup between a pair of teams who are each finding some success after some heartache. One team has won two straight after dropping its first six, and the other finds itself on the plus side of .500 at the mid-season point for the first time in seven seasons. Bismarck had a rough go of it after moving over to the IFL from Champions Indoor Football last winter. After opening their IFL tenure 0-6, The Bucks have emerged with a pair of wins in consecutive weeks. First came a 40-25 victory over the Cedar Rapids River Kings on the road two weeks ago. They followed that up with an impressive, grind-it-out win at home over the Quad City Steamwheelers last week. John Gibbs passed for 110 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 58 yards and four scores in the game, earning him IFL Player of the Week honors. After winning just twice last season, Green Bay has more than doubled that win total this year. The Blizzard stand at 5-3 on the season and are hoping to secure at least the fourth seed in the IFL playoffs, which would earn them a home date in the first round. A win over the Bucks could go a long way to helping solidify that. They have won four of their last five, including a sweep of the Steamwheelers and a week 8 win over the Nebraska Danger; all of which were decided by six or fewer points and in the final minute. This game features the top two players in IFL history in all-purpose yards.
Gibbs, who has split time with Homer Causey at QB this season for the Bucks, went to the distance in last week's win. The performance will garner him a start in this one. Gibbs has completed 43.2 percent of his passes for 515 yards with seven touchdowns and five picks. He's rushed 41 times for 211 yards -- 5.1 yards per carry -- with a team-high eight touchdowns. Causey is completing 50 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions, and has rushed for 162 yards and five scores. Preston Hamlette is a bullish runner who is best utilized in short-yardage situations. Mike Tatum comes in second all-time with 7,612 all-purpose yards. He comes in with 24 catches for 315 yards and four touchdowns. He also has rushed for four scores. Frederick Abraham has 21 catches for 235 yards and five touchdowns. Eric Lauderdale, who caught his first career touchdown pass last week -- the game winner -- will likely round out the group in this one. Jammeron Johnson leads the Bucks defense with 31 tackles and has 4.5 tackles for loss. LaTreze Mushatt, who has 26 tackles, leads the team with 8.5 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and three pass break ups. He also has the team's only two sacks on the season. Lynn Williams also has 26 tackles, to go along with two fumble recoveries and a team-leading six pass break ups. Former Green Bay kicker Cody Barber will be appearing in his third game with the Bucks. He has made seven of 10 extra point attempts and one of three field goal tries.
The Blizzard are coming off a bye after a disappointing loss to the Danger in week 9. Lenorris Footman is completing 52.2 percent of his passes for 1,037 yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions. He is second in the IFL with 59.9 rushing yards per game and has 12 touchdowns on the ground through eight games. Ramses Owens has rushed 36 times for 174 yards and seven touchdowns and will take some heat off his quarterback in the ground game. B.J. Hill is first all-time in all-purpose yards with 7,624 -- just 12 yards more than the Bucks' Tatum. Hill, who was converted from defense to offense late last season, has caught 29 passes for 330 yards and five touchdowns. Keshaun Taylor has 26 catches for 282 yards and four touchdowns, while Kezlow Smith comes in with 21 receptions for 247 yards and a team-leading six touchdowns. All three receivers have appeared in the team's eight games this season. Joe Powell and Dayshawn Taylor lead the Blizzard defense with 47 tackles apiece. Powell has five tackles for loss and an interception, and Taylor has 4.5 tackles for loss. Bakari Triggs is among the IFL leaders with four interceptions and has a sack. Delrick Canty leads the team with three sacks, and Truett Box has 2.5. Silverberry Mouhon has recorded two sacks, Teko Powell has 1.5 sacks and Jarar Johnson has also recorded an interception. Edward Ruhnke has made 11 of his 13 extra point attempts, and has converted one field goal, of 35 yards. He will be appearing in his third game with the team.
