BREAKDOWN
One of these teams is undefeated and looking for a first round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. With a win here, the Rattlers accomplish that. The other showed promise early in the season, but struggled since their week 2 meeting between these teams. The River Kings enter this game on an eight-game skid and area looking for some respectability. If, somehow, they can shock the league and topple the visiting Rattlers, it could be a bright spot to a season filled with struggles. The Rattlers have benefited from what amounts to a fairly easy schedule. Thus far during the season, they have played only three of their 11 games against which currently stand at over .500 (the Green Bay Blizzard once the Sioux Falls Storm twice). They are looking to become the first IFL team to go a perfect 14-0 during the regular season since the Storm did it in 2015. The River Kings, under new ownership this season, have a home-and-away series against the Blizzard to close out the regular season in the subsequent two weeks. Jabre Lolley rushed for 87 yards and four touchdowns, and caught two passes for 70 yards, in the Rattlers' 81-37 win over the Cedar Rapids in week 2. Nathaniel Chavious rushed 89 yards and a touchdown while catching six passes for 36 yards for the River Kings in the loss. This is the seventh all-time meeting between the teams with Arizona winning each of the six previous games.
The Rattlers, already standing at 8-0, were invigorated three games ago when Drew Powell took over under center. Powell was the IFL Most Valuable Player last season as he led the Iowa Barnstormers to the United Bowl title. In just three games, Powell is completing 78,6 percent of his passes for 428 yards with 11 touchdowns and just a single interception. He also has 10 rushing touchdowns and averages 83.3 yards per game on the ground. That makes him the unofficial leader in the latter category (in order to be on the official leader board, a player must have played in 75 percent of his team's games). Lolley rushes for 51.9 yards per game with 14 trips to the end zone, and has caught five touchdowns on the season. Jarrod Harrington comes in with 48 receptions for 593 yards and 13 touchdowns. Jamal Miles has caught 36 passes for 437 yards and 15 yards, which is tied for third in the league. Davontae Merriweather's 82 tackles are second in the IFL. He also has eight pass break ups, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a sack. Ricky Wyatt, Jr. is second in the league with six sacks and third with 13 tackles for loss. Allen Chapman is the league's co-leader in interceptions with six, while Chris McAllister adds 3.5 and Nikolaus D'Avanzo three. Dillon Winfrey and Phillip Henry have five and four interceptions, respectively. Jimmy Camacho, who has appeared in all 11 games this season for the Rattlers, has made 87 of 97 extra point attempts and five of 10 field goal tries with a long of 43 yards.
As they have been this season, the River Kings are in flux. Their original starting quarterback, Kurt Palandech, is away from the team, and backup Ben Wilkerson struggled in three starts after taking over. Enter option number three; Dalton Oliver, whom we are projecting to get the start following the bye. Oliver took over midway through the second quarter of Cedar Rapids' game loss to the Steamwheelers on May 17. After starting the game one of five, he led the River Kings to three second-half touchdowns. It wasn't enough for the win, but he finished 11 of 21 for 118 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Nathaniel Chavious has appeared in all 11 games for the River Kings, rushing 98 times for 382 yards with 13 touchdowns and has not lost a fumble. Chavious is also used as a receiver out of the backfield and as a kickoff returner. Marquel Wade is one of the best in the business and can benefit from Oliver's passing abilities. Wade has 503 yards off 49 receptions and eight touchdowns. Jordan Smith, who caught a pair of scores from Oliver two weeks ago, has 35 catches for 392 yards and eight touchdowns on the season. Drake White rounds out the group with 17 catches for 179 yards and five scores. Nick Brassell has 41 tackles, two interceptions and three pass break ups for the River Kings' defense. Jeff Branch leads the team with 11.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Phillip Nwosu has made 16 of 23 extra point attempts and is seven of 16 on field goal tries with a long of 49 yards.
