Salut SCtoC, It is I the official NFL Analyst for this great website, and today I am going to be giving you my Web of Football for Week 9. It is crazy to think that the season is already half way done. Enough sappy stuff, let us begin!
Fly on to victory!
Usually I try to save my Sunday Night Football review for later in the column, however the top story of this week has to be the Ravens defeat of the previously undefeated Patriots on Sunday Night Football.
First off, I CALLED IT!
I think the Ravens are beating the Patriots next week
Now, for those you who are long time readers, you know I like Lamar Jackson. In fact, I have watched him since his Heisman season at Louisville where he became one of my favorite (if not my favorite) college player(s) of all time. My point in bringing all that up? I am not surprised at his success as a pro. May I remind everyone HE WON THE HEISMAN TROPHY!!!! When I hear people (like Cris Collinsworth and others) act surprised that Lamar is good, I get mad because you don't win the Heisman if you aren't good. The surprise should be someone like Matt Leinhart who didn't succeed as a pro. I'm digressing, but the I wanted to make that point to set the stage.
Game starts off with an efficient drive by the Ravens making the Patriots vaunted defense look not vaunt worthy. Touchdown run by Lamar. Then the Ravens defense forces three straight incompletions by Patriots QB Tom Brady. Then the Ravens drive again and the Patriots defense stops the Ravens short of a TD and thus a short FG by the Ravens makes the game 10-0. Patriots get a first down on their next series and then are forced to punt. Ravens RB Mark Ingram has a huge run on the Ravens next possession setting up another Ravens TD, this time a passing TD by Lamar. The game is 17-0... in the first quarter. Yeah, it got to the point when Al Michaels was already in "this game is a blowout" mode after the Patriots punted after the Ravens scored.
Lucky for the Patriots, the Ravens muffed the punt which ultimately let the Patriots back in the game with a touchdown. Then the Ravens fumbled on their next possession, which led to a Pats FG. The Patriots got another FG before half too and they were going to get the ball to start the second half. The momentum had completely shifted in favor of the defending champs and other teams would have crumbled. Instead the Patriots crumbled as Julian Edelman fumbled, which led to a Marlon Humphrey scoop and score TD. Ravens take the momentum back. The Patriots would score another TD to make it closer, but the Ravens responded and the game for almost the entire 4th quarter was not in doubt. Ravens win.
Lamar Jackson played great for the Ravens. As a passer he is good. As a runner he is good. Bill Belichick was right when said that Lamar is a problem. The offense line of the Ravens also deserves a lot of credit for making the Ravens offense what it is. They kept Lamar and Gus Edwards and Mark Ingram humming and kept the chains moving.
The Patriots didn't play terrible either, watching the game from start to finish, it became clear that the Ravens were the better team and I have no doubt that the Patriots do not want to face the Ravens in January whether it be in Baltimore or Foxborough.
Fitzmagic: The Gathering
The Dolphins have not won a game this season as has been talked about weekly in this column. Yet, today they are no longer winless, my friends they have won a game. BECAUSE OF:
Against his former team the New York Jets, Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick had 3 touchdown passes and nearly 300 passing yards with a 118.8 QB rating and he completed over 2/3rds of his passes. He also spread the ball round with completions to 7 different receivers. I have said that Fitzmagic would finally come and it would be awesome when it did. It has and now the Dolphins are not last place in the AFC East. Fun times we live in people.
The New York Jets are a Hall of Fame of Disasters level disaster
Back when the Jets hired Adam Gase to be their HC, I said:
Maybe, Gase turns Sam Darnold into a Hall of Famer or maybe this entire Jets regime plus Darnold will go into the Hall of Fame of Disasters. I'm thinking the latter is much more likely than the earlier.
Correctumundo.
Peyton Manning made Adam Gase. Let no one forget that. If it weren't for Peyton, Gase would not be considered an "offensive guru" or a "QB whisperer" or "bright young mind" or whatever lame jargon has been thrown his way. The 2012-15 Broncos won those games because of Peyton not because of Adam Gase or Von Miller or John Elway. Now, unlike Von Miller and John Elway who stayed in the Rocky Mountains to absolutely no success, Adam Gase left and after a brief stint as OC of Da Bears, became the HC of the Dolphins. Gase got fired after being a losing coach and locker room cancer. So what do the New Jork Jets do? They decide that the best coach for their team is that guy.
They also pair Gase up with Sam Darnold who stinks like the smelly car from Seinfeld. You combine two of the most overrated stinkers in the NFL today and what do you get? The 2019 New York Jets who are now officially after the loss to the Dolphins a Hall of Fame of Disasters member. Congrats, guys.

ROAD TO 0-16
This is the segment I do, celebrating the very worst the NFL has to offer. After week 9 the 0-for team is:
Cincinnati Bengals
Because of the Dolphins aforementioned win, the Bengals are the only team that still has not won a game this season. Will they not win a single game? They don't deserve to. Why do I say that? Because it came out after I finished last week's rapid fire quasi-column thing that the Bengals told Andy Dalton of his benching only a few hours before the trade deadline, thus not giving him and his agent a chance to find a landing spot. After what Dalton has done for that franchise, to not treat him right? Cheesy move by the Bengals. Tua, ya may wanna stay for your senior year.
ROAD TO 16-0
This is the segment I do, celebrating the very best the NFL has to offer. After week 9 the undefeated team is:
San Francisco 49ers
Gotta give the Cardinals credit for hanging in there with the 49ers. I certainly didn't expect to see that happen. What I didn't expect to happen was to see the 49ers be good... at all. I gotta live with that for the rest of this season. Bummer.
As always I hope ya enjoyed. My midseason awards will come later in the week. This is spiderfan out.
