Overview
The following is the 2020 schedule for Tucson Sugar Skulls.
Tucson had a solid inaugural season and with a final week win over the Quad City Steamwheelers, they earned a playoff berth. Their drive was halted when the Sioux Falls Storm stopped the Sugar Skulls' run in the First Round of the playoffs. Still, the Sugar Skulls had a good road in their inaugural 2019 season and will look to build on that in 2020. Last year's head coach, Marcus Coleman, was let go in favor of Dixie Wooten, who led the Iowa Barnstormers to the 2018 United Bowl championship. Wooten has brought over some notable players from his Barnstormers' team, including the Indoor Football League's Player of the Year, QB Daquan Neal. The Sugar Skulls will look to battle with in-state rival the Arizona Rattlers, who are coached by one of the Sugar Skulls owners, Kevin Guy.
The Sugar Skulls open the season with two bye weeks. Their first action of the season is March 19th when they visit the Cedar Rapids River Kings. Tucson is the last of the IFL teams to make its home debut, hosting the expansion Duke City Gladiators the following week in their home opener. The Sugar Skulls' schedule involves an away-and-away in April and a home-and-home against Arizona in May. They close out their season in Week 17 when they host the expansion Oakland Panthers. The Sugar Skulls do not play the Frisco Fighters, the Quad City Gladiators, Iowa Barnstormers nor the Sioux Falls Storm in 2020.
Each IFL team plays 14 games (seven home and seven away), and has three bye weeks. The Sugar Skulls have byes in Weeks 2, 11 and 17. They play their home games at the Tucson Convention Center in Tucson, Arizona. Wooten will enter his first season as the team's head coach.
All Sugar Skulls games will be broadcast locally on the radio and will be available for streaming through those stations. SCtoC will provide links in its previews of the games, as well as recaps of each IFL game. Broadcast information for each game is forthcoming and will be updated on this page when available.
