In our country and, in fact, around the world we have reached a boiling point in regards to racial relations, social policing injustice and the letter of the law following the Minneapolis, Minnesota death of citizen George Floyd. It is past time to address these issues concretely and fairly. This conversation and this change is much overdue.
We support the peaceful protesters as long as they are just that -- peaceful. Making our voices heard is woven into the fabric of history of the United States. Those voices should be loud and convincing, However, we cannot stress this enough, peaceful. Rioting, looting and vandalism has no place in the strive for true change. Such actions only diminish the efforts being made by those calling for changes toward equality, both in society and among our law enforcement agencies. As is common, it is a small group which is disrupting an overall message. Those actions must stop. This unequal "justice" must stop.
We implore our leaders in the communities, in the governments and in the law enforcement agencies to listen to the anger to the calls to reshape how racism is looked at when it comes to how minorities are treated by officers, deputies and troopers. Know that this racism exists. Know that change is demanded. Know that the status quo will no longer be acceptable. When this injustice occurs, there must be a procedure of accountability at all levels of law enforcement. Some may dismiss this issue. To these leaders we say, do not listen to the dismissals. Please listen to the calls for change from your citizens marching in the streets. you each work for your citizens; no one else. They are the ones to whom you must listen, and to act to correct this atrocity which has gone on in this country much too long. We do this by making our voices peacefully heard and casting our ballots for those who will enact meaningful change.
We recognize those law enforcement and community members around the country who have chose to rise above hate and violence and, even join citizens to march and to pray. We are all in this together and we see that many of you understand that. So, to everyone we say proverbial ball is in your court. Let's talk, let's listen and let's be better.
Let's be equal and fair to one another. Most of all, let's liston to one another.
