Note: Due to the 2020 IFL season being eventually cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, references in this preview may pertain to the 2019 season.
The Pirates announced their entry into the IFL on August 20, 2020; that they would be making the jump from the National Arena League. They did not play in the NAL in 2020 after that league cancelled the season. The Pirates home of Worchester is roughly 45 miles west of Boston. The Xtreme are the newest IFL team, announced on November 6. With a consolidated estimated population of over 717,000, Louisville is the second-largest independent metropolitan city (next to Phoenix) in the IFL. This does not count the Frisco Fighters, located 30 miles north of Dallas, Texas, nor the Pirates' distance from Boston.

Breakdown
PIRATES OVERVIEW
The Pirates come over from the National Arena League after two seasons in that league. The made the jump in late August 2020 and will become the furthest-eastern team in the history of the Indoor Football League. They are located in Worchester, Massachusetts; roughly a 45-minute drive west from Boston. In their two seasons in the NAL the Pirates had significant success during the regular season. They finished their inaugural season as the top seed in the playoff race with a record of 11-5. That run was cut short when they were knocked out of the playoffs in the semifinals by the Columbus Lions, 50-36. They finished the 2019 season with a 8-5 record, only to be thwarted in the semifinals by the Carolina Cobras, 30-24. Former New England Patriots' fullback Patrick Pass is at the helm of the Pirates as they enter their first IFL season. There are some new IFL names, though fans from the NAL will recognize several players who have been brought over from the 2019 squad. Veteran indoor quarterback Sean Brackett is anticipated to take the helm. The Columbia University grad has enjoyed a nine-year career in indoor football with six different teams.
XTREME OVERVIEW
The Xtreme are making their IFL debut with this game, and will look to make some noise in their inaugural season as they hope to earn one of the league's eight playoff spots. Louisville is coached by Mark Stoute, whose most recent tenure in the league was with the Cedar Rapids River Kings in 2019. It was a rough outing for that team as they finished just 1-13. He had previously coached Cedar Rapids (as the Titans) from 2013 to 2016, compiling a 41-17 record with them during that time. Among other coaching positions he has held was with the now-defunct Nebraska Danger during the first portion of the 2018 season. Stoute's challenge with the Xtreme is to build the roster from scratch. Veteran IFL quarterback Bryan Hicks seems to be a good start. The Blizzard were at their best in 2018 with Hicks under center. Running back/linebacker Desmond Maxwell comes over from the National Arena League's Orlando Predators. Defensive lineman Keith Trumps and defensive lineman Jeff Branch could become stalwarts in the defensive side of the ball. IFL veteran Derek Vacha was signed to the training camp roster and will likely handle the kicking duties.
