GLADIATORS
It's been a long wait for the Gladiators' first game in the IFL after moving over from Champions Indoor Football after the 2019 season. The Gladiators announced their move to the IFL on August 14, 2019. After tabbing IFL Hall of Famer and former Nebraska Danger head coach Pig Brown as their head coach, the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The team has hired Martino Theus to build their team in their new league. Theus will look to lead the two-time CIF champion Gladiators to the same level in the IFL. Veteran indoor quarterback Nate Davis is expected to take the helm of the Gladiators. Former Danger receiver Gregory Dent, Jr. will lead a receiving corps which also includes Sedrick Johnson, Omauri Hampton and Xavier Amey. Christian Fredericks and Roger Walker are the running backs listed on the roster. While it's difficult to predict the look of the defense, the group includes defensive backs Ibrahim Maiga and Rick Rumph. James "Kimo" Naehuwill handle the kicking duties.
BARNSTORMERS
Iowa looks to be back to its 2018 championship form after their 20-point win over the Storm at Sioux Falls on May 15. The teams have become rivals over the last few seasons with no signs of that stopping now. This week they turn their attention to the two-time CIF champion Gladiators. The 2019 IFL Offensive Player of the Year, Daquan Neal, looked impressive in the season opener against the Storm. He completed 73 percent of his throws for 254 yards with six touchdowns, and ran for another 46 yards. Neal drives the Barnstormers' bus so if he is successful, the team will be in a position to win. Andrew Mahoney caught six passes for 128 yards and three scores. Connor Hollenbeck added five catches for 70 yards and a touchdown, while Beau Tanner added a couple of touchdown grabs. In addition to Neal, Evan Owens should be expected to see some rushing opportunities. CJ Thornton comes in with nine tackles, and Tony Jones recorded 1.5 tackles for loss. Nathan Criswell is Iowa's kicker.
