Breakdown
SHOCK
Though they didn't get the result they wanted in the season opener, we got a good look at what Billy Back and the Shock are going to look like to start the season. Thus far, the offense has features a short-passing game with quite a bit of running mixed in. Charles McCullum, former IFL Player of the Year, completed 18 of 31 passes while averaging just 7.8 yards per completion. He tossed a touchdown and two interceptions in the opener and will want to clean up the latter category. Davonte Sapp-Lynch (Marshawn's kid brother) was effective rushing the ball, amassing 47 yards on just 11 carries. Kamrin Solomon was McCullum's main target, catching six balls for 61 yards and a touchdown. Also figure on Troy Evans, Jr. and Jordan Jolly to mix in the passing game. On the defensive side, Mike Green, Cedric Poole and Darus Thomas lead the way, as well as Dominic Sanders who had the pass break ups last week. Sawyer Petre is on hand to take care of the kicking duties.
PIRATES
After starting the season 2-1, the Pirates enjoyed a bye last week to prepare for their IFL home opener. The Pirates dominated in their wins over the Louisville Xtreme and Bismarck Bucks, but ran into a stingy Green Bay Blizzard defense in week 2. Alejandro Bennifield has started the past two games for the Pirates. He's completing 55 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and just one interception, and has rushed for seven scores as well. Justin Stockton is emerging as one of the top running backs in the league. He's averaging 49.7 yards per game with a touchdown rush. Thomas Owens and Terrence Williams lead the receiving group with 222 and 173 yards, respectively, through the first three games. Owens leads the team with four touchdown grabs. Martrell Spaight's 24 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and three pass break ups lead the defense, and J.D. Griggs has 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Northern Oklahoma A&M alum Gabriel Rui is the Massachusetts kicker.
