Bucks 61, Wranglers 39
5/22/21 --
BISMARCK, ND - The Bismarck Bucks jumped out to a 20-0 lead early in the second quarter and never looked back as they earned their third win of the season with a 61-39 win over the visiting Northern Arizona Wranglers tonight at the Bismarck Event Center.
The Bucks already have one more win in 2021 than they had during their entire 2019 season; sporting a 3-1 record. The Wranglers, who fell 51-20 to the Arizona Rattlers in their season opener, went to 0-2 on the season.
Bismarck opened the scoring with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Glen Cuiellette to J.T. Stokes. They added to that lead midway through the first quarter on Justin Rankin's seven-yard run. The Bucks led 13-0 at the end of one.
They added to the tally when Cuiellette hit Mike Carrigan for a 25-yard touchdown a minute into the second quarter. Marquian Johnson's 31-yard pass from Caden Walters put the Wranglers on the board at the 11:31 mark of the second quarter, but Bismarck came right back with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Cuiellette to Stokes. Six minutes later, the Bucks scored again on a one-yard run from Cuiellette with four seconds left in the half and the Bucks held a 34-7 margin at the break.
Walter's five-yard pass to Terrance Bynum pulled Northern Arizona to within 34-13 early in the third, but the two-point conversion rush failed. They added another score 10 minutes later when Keyvan Rudd caught a 26-yard touchdown from Walters. Bismarck came back with 2:12 left in the quarter on a 33-yard run from Raheem Harvey and the Bucks led 41-25 going into the final quarter.
The Wranglers kept fighting, scoring on a 25-yard pass from Walters to Daron Clark a minute into the quarter. Harvey, typically a wide receiver, rushed in from nine yards to put the Bucks up 48-25. Walters' 21-yard pass to Rudd pulled the Wranglers to within 15 points at the midpoint of the final quarter. Cuiellette's 32-yard touchdown to Carrigan extended the Bucks' lead to 55-33 at the five-minute mark. Walters hit Clark on a 10-yard pass to narrow the deficit to 16, but Cuiellette hit Carrigan for a 26-yard touchdown with 2:25 left to ice the win for the Bucks.
Cuiellette went none of 16 for 160 yards with five touchdowns and a pick. All three of Carrigan's receptions went for touchdowns, gaining 83 yards in the process. Stokes accounted for three catches for 66 yards with a pair of scores.
Walters had a nice outing for the Wranglers, going 15 of 29 for 206 yards with six scoring tosses. He also rushed for 101 yards. Rudd was spectacular despite the loss, catching nine balls for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The Wranglers are on a bye next week, but will be back in action on June 5 when they host the Spokane Shock with a 6:05 p.m. kickoff. The Bucks will visit the Iowa Barnstormers on May 29 with kickoff set for 5:05 p.m. All times listed are pacific daylight time. Click for the SCtoC 2021 Indoor Football League schedule.
