Breakdown
GLADIATORS
Duke City has had its ups and downs all year. The Gladiators have seemingly taken two steps back for one game forward. They have been in several games, but have had trouble closing out. They fell to the Tucson Sugar Skulls last week when Tucson converted on a two-point conversion in the final seconds to defeat the Gladiators, 41-40. Duke City is out to make a playoff run and it starts with a visit to the Wranglers this week. It's the third of four meetings between the teams this season and the Gladiators have won the first three. Nate Davis is the IFL's top passing quarterback in yards with 1,511 yards and 44 touchdown tosses. He is completing 61 percent of his passes. Duke City lacks a consistent running game and averages just 23.3 yards on the ground. Dello Davis, Xavier Amey and Jared Elmore benefit from Nate Davis' passing with the three combining for 1,260 receiving yards and 38 scores between them. Ray Jones, Jr. and Paul Robinson have 48 and 43 tackles, respectively, and Robinson has seven pass breakups.
WRANGLERS
Northern Arizona is just three games out of a playoff position. Of course, the bad news is that they have just six games left to make up some ground. Two of those games come against the Gladiators (They also meet on August 7 at Rio Rancho, New Mexico). The Wranglers are going to look to rebound from their 43-point loss to the Arizona Rattlers last week, so a return to their home arena could be just what they need to make some headway and, perhaps, climb out of the cellar of the IFL Standings. Verlon Reed Jr. comes in completing 52 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and three interceptions. Fans also may see Caden Walters appear in this game as he has 12 touchdown throws and three picks. Todd Athey has appeared in three games since coming over from the Louisville Xtreme and has quickly become Reed's top target in the passing game Terrance Bynum and Rob Brown also should expect some passes coming their way. Robert Brown, Jr. leads the defense with 32 tackles and a pair of interceptions, and Whitney Richardson has 4.5 tackles for loss.
