Breakdown
FIGHTERS
The mission is simple for the Fighters this week. A win clinches a playoff berth. In fact, running the table in their last four games would ensure the Fighters of the top seed heading into the playoffs. That would include a win over the current first-place Arizona Rattlers in the August 21 season finale between the teams. The first step begins this week as the Fighters visit the defending champions. Frisco would love nothing more to cement their place in the playoffs with a win over the Storm. Jonathan Bane has been highly effective during the course of the season. He is completing 61 percent of his passes with 25 touchdowns and just four picks. His leadership will be paramount in this one. Demarcus Felton is one of the best backs in the league; averaging 40 yards per game with 16 scores. Bane has a foursome of targets in Mark Munson, Lance Evans, Marques Rodgers and Manny Arceneaux. Defensively, Khalil Williams leads the Fighters in tackles, and Charles Williams leads the IFL with seven sacks. Malcolm Goines comes in with 4.5 sacks of his own.
STORM
Sioux Falls finds itself in a precarious and unknown position. Prior to 2021, the Storm had never lost more than four games in a season and that happened just once (in 2013). In that season they still powered through the playoffs and won the United Bowl. Their five losses is the most they've ever experienced in the current incarnation of the IFL. Even with that, head coach Kurtiss Riggs always has his teams ready when it comes down to a playoff run. Lorenzo Brown, Jr. has been the team's quarterback for several years, and came back this season to lead the team. Also on the Storm's roster is the IFL's 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year, Tommy Armstrong, Jr., who has been out with an injury the past three weeks. Nate Chavious is one of the better rushers in the league with 35.5 yards per game and 15 touchdowns. Brandon Sheperd leads the receiving corps. Alonzo Moore also will see plenty of targets. Marquis Hendricks and Trey Wafford lead the defense in tackles with the latter picking up a pair of interceptions, nine tackles for loss and a sack.
