Breakdown
SUGAR SKULLS
Tucson seems to be picking up some steam in the second half of the season. The Sugar Skulls are on the outside looking in, but wins in each of their final three games could very well find them in the playoffs with an equal 7-7 record they had in 2019. They have won three of their last four, including last week's triple-overtime 48-46 win over the Northern Arizona Wranglers at home. They are looking for their first-ever win over the Arizona Rattlers in this, their seventh attempt. Veteran signal caller Cory Murphy has stepped in the past two games (both wins). He is completing 58 percent of his throws for three touchdowns and no picks. Murphy also has rushed for 170 yards and three touchdowns in those two games. Mike Jones is one of the best rushers the IFL, with 18 scores on the ground and five through the air. Ryan Balentine is one of the top receivers in the league and is supported by Jazeric Peterson and JuJu Augustine. Delondo Boyd leads the defense with 58 tackles and a pair of interceptions. Matt Elam has 46 tackles and Jujuan Harley leads the team with three sacks.
RATTLERS
Arizona is in the driver's seat to earn the top seed in the playoffs. Should they win all three of their remaining games, they will earn that top seed, but single loss could derail that. They already have earned no less than the number three seed and will host a game in the first round of the playoffs regardless. There are nearly countless scenarios where the Rattlers finish in any of the top three spots. They are averaging a league-high 51.6 points and allowing a league third-lowest 37.7 points per game. Drew Powell is the quarterback and seems this season to be more dangerous as a scrambler this year. He is completing 70 percent of his passes with 23 touchdowns and six interceptions, while rushing for 68.7 yards per game with 29 trips to the end zone. Nick LaSane, with 10 touchdowns on the season is likely to be the lead back in this one. Jarrod Harrington leads the team in receiving with 41 catches for 496 yards and nine scores. Dillon Winfrey leads the team with 51 tackles and three interceptions. while Devin Cockrell has 46 of his own. Nikolas D'Avanzo has five sacks.
