Breakdown
PIRATES
Massachusetts is the IFL's hottest team, having won six straight. The Pirates already have clinched a playoff berth and a home game in the First Round. They can end the regular season no lower than third in the standings, but have the opportunity to move to the second spot or, perhaps, the top spot depending on results around the league in the final two weeks of the season. The Pirates allow just 35.7 points per game which leads the IFL, and are fourth on offense at 43.1 points per game. Alejandro Bennifield has been the starting quarterback since week 2. He is completing 55 percent of his passes to go along with 34 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also has rushed for 16 scores on the season. Justin Stockton leads the team in rushing with 339 yards and has eight touchdowns. Thomas Owens is second in the IFL with 754 receiving yards and third with 18 scoring grabs. Santos Ramirez's 69 tackles leads the team. Harlan Miller comes in with four interceptions and Aarion Maxey-Penton has three.
WRANGLERS
Northern Arizona will miss the playoffs in this, their inaugural season. The Wranglers do, however, have an opportunity to play spoiler in their final two games against the Pirates and the Tucson Sugar Skulls. While there will be no postseason, it's possible they can look to these last two games as mini tryouts for next year. The Wranglers are playing for pride and have been within three points of their opponents in two of their last three games. Verlon Reed, Jr. is a quality quarterback who won the IFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2017 while with the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles. He's completing 52 percent of his passes with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions, and is rushing for 29.3 yards per game to go along with six scores. In just five games with the Wranglers, Todd Athey has amassed 276 yards and six touchdowns. James Briana-Hopp and Terrance Bynum also should figure into the passing game. Russell Williams, Jr. leads the defense with 38 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss, and Derick Calhoun has five pass breakups.
