Breakdown
SUGAR SKULLS
Tucson still has a chance at a playoff spot. The Sugar Skulls need a win over the Wranglers here, and need the Bismarck Bucks to defeat the Duke City Gladiators. Both teams would then finish 6-8 and the Sugar Skulls would win the tiebreaker due to their sweep of the Gladiators. In fact, three of Tucson's wins this season have come over Duke City. The Sugar Skulls finished their enaugural 2019 season at 7-7, but fell to the eventual champion Sioux Falls Storm in the First Round, 50-47. Cory Murphy has taken the helm at quarterback. He is completing 63 percent of his throws with seven touchdowns and just two interceptions. In just four games, he has rushed for 57.5 yards per game and five touchdowns. Mike Jones is second in the league, and first among running backs, with 21 scores on the ground. Ryan Balentine is the IFL's all-time leading receiver and is always a threat all over the field. Jazeric Peterson and Juju Augustine will see targets in this one as well. Delondo Boyd leads the defense with 62 tackles and a pair of interceptions, and Jujuan Harley has three sacks.
WRANGLERS
Northern Arizona has been eliminated from playoff contention for a few weeks now. However, the Wranglers have played with pride and have a chance in this one to play spoiler. They have played the Sugar Skulls tough in both games, winning the first matchup by four. The last meeting between the teams went to triple overtime and, if not for a miscue on a two-point conversion which would have sent the second meeting into a fourth OT, the Wranglers could have doubled their win total. They would love nothing more than to finish the season on a high note. Verlon Reed, Jr. is a quality quarterback who is completing 51 percent of his passes with 19 touchdowns and 11 picks. He also is averaging 27.2 rushing yards per game with seven scores on the ground. Emmanuel Jones will get some rushes and targets through the passing game, and Todd Athey and JJ Brania-Hopp should figure into the passing game as well. Robert Brown, Jr. paces the defense with 45 tackles and five pass break ups. Russell Williams, Jr. comes in with 39 tackles and Eric Sadler has three picks.
