Rattlers 55, Fighters 38

PHOENIX, AZ - The Arizona Rattlers outscored the Frisco Fighters by 14 points in the second quarter and rolled to a 55-38 win to earn the top seed in the Indoor Football League playoffs.
The Rattlers finish the 2021 regular season at 12-2. They will host the eighth-seeded Sioux Falls Storm in the First Round on August 29 at 3:05 p.m. Arizona and Sioux Falls have split their two games this season with each team winning at home.
Frisco finishes the season at 10-3 and claims the third seed. The Fighters will host the sixth-seeded Spokane Shock on August 28 at 5:05 p.m. pacific time.
This is the first-ever meeting between the teams.
The Rattlers struck first with a 15-yard run from Jarrod Harrington, but the Fighters struck back with an 18-yard pass from Malik Henry to Bryce Wilkerson. Arizona took another seven-point lead on a 10-yard touchdown throw from Drew Powell to Troy Pelletier. Frisco tied the game at 14-14 with 1:48 left in the first quarter on Henry's 36-yard touchdown to Jerrod Heard.
Arizona scored on their first possession of the second quarter on n 18-yard pass from Powell to Jamal Miles. Frisco cut into the lead with a 26-yard field goal from Kristov Martinez. The Rattlers scored again with a 1:28 left in the opening half when Powell ran it in from a yard out. They added a 25-yard field goal from Ernesto Lacayo as time expired to give them a 31-17 halftime lead.
The Fighters pulled to within a touchdown early in the third on a four-yard touchdown pass from Henry to Heard. Powell extended the Rattlers' lead two minutes later with a three-yard run and the Rattlers had a 38-24 lead heading into the final quarter.
Darrell Monroe's nine yard touchdown catch from Powell put the Rattlers up 45-24 two minutes into the fourth. The Fighters cut the gap back to 14 with Demarcus Felton's five-yard run. Davonte Merriweather returned the ensuing onside kick seven yards for another Rattlers score. Heard scored for for the Fighters on a 21-yard run with just over six minutes left. Arizona capped the scoring with a 24-yard field goal from Lacayo.
Powell completed 14 of 19 passes for 167 yards with three touchdowns. He also rushed for a pair of scores. Harrington caught five balls for 57 yards, and Miles finished with four catches for 51 yards and a score. Merriweather and Devin Cockrell each had eight tackles, and Dillon Winfrey recorded a pair of interceptions.
Henry finished 12 of 22 for 136 yards with three touchdowns and a pick. Heard, the backup quarterback to Henry, made an impact with five carries for 48 yards and a touchdown, and had two catches for 40 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Felton rushed six times for 46 yards and a score, and Wilkerson finished with four touchdowns for 66 yards and a score. Charles Williams led the Fighters defense with eight tackles.
