Gladiators 34, Barnstormers 33
8/28/21 --
DES MOINES, IA - Nate Davis' three-yard pass to Dello Davis, coupled with Kevin Goessling's extra point, with just seconds remaining lifted the Duke City Gladiators over the Iowa Barnstormers tonight at Wells Fargo Arena.
Duke City's 34-33 win propels them to the semifinals of the Indoor Football League playoffs next week. The Gladiators will be on the road with their opponent depending on the result of the first round game on August 29 between the Sioux Falls Storm and Arizona Rattlers. If the Rattlers win, the Gladiators will head to Phoenix to face Arizona. If the Storm win, the Gladiators will visit the Frisco Fighters.
Regular Season Head to Head
May 22 - Gladiators 63, Barnstormers 55 (OT)
The Gladiators scored first on a five-yard run from Nate Davis. The Barnstormers responded with a two-yard run from Evan Owens. Duke City scored again, but Iowa tied it at 13-13 with a 26-yard run from Daquan Neal.
Duke City retook the lead on a touchdown from Raymond Taylor. A pair of Gabriel Rui field goals in the second quarter drew the Barnstormers to within a point at 20-19 by halftime.
Iowa scored to take a six-point lead early in the third before Taylor put the Gladiators up 27-26 with another touchdown run. Neal found Kentrez Bell for a 28-yard touchdown early in the fourth.
That set up the Davis-to-Davis connection for the tying score. Goessling's point after try was made more difficult by an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Duke City following the touchdown. The flag turned a normal 18-yard try into a 33-yard attempt, but Goessling sent the try through the middle of the uprights to send the Gladiators into the semifinal.
