Breakdown
GLADIATORS
Duke City, which won two straight championships in Champions Indoor Football (2018 and 2019) are looking to earn the same honor in its new league. However, that road will not be an easy one as the Gladiators face the top seeded Rattlers, which are always difficult to beat. They got within 12 points on a visit to the Rattlers five weeks ago. The Gladiators featured the league's top offense during the regular season, scoring 52.6 points per game. On the other side of the coin, they allowed 47.1 points per game, which was the second-highest in the league. Raymond Taylor rushed for 84 yards with a pair of touchdowns, and Dello Davis caught one touchdown and tossed another in the Gladiators' 34-33 win over the Iowa Barnstormers in the opening round. Nate Davis is probably in the top two when it comes tocandidates for IFL MVP of Offensive player of the Year. He is completed 64 percent of his passes and his 79 touchdowns are far and away tops in the league during the regular season. He comes in with just 10 picks on the season. Dello Davis led the league with 69.6 receiving yards per game with 37 scoring grabs. Jared Elmore and Xavier Amey combined for over 104 yards per game and 37 touchdowns. Ray Jones, Jr. paced the team with 82 tackles and eight pass breakups, while Javian Williams recorded four sacks.
RATTLERS
Arizona is in the driver's seat to its second United Bowl championship since moving to the IFL from the Arena Football League prior to the 2017 season. Should the Rattlers win this, they will host this year's United Bowl on September 12. Including their dominating win last week over the Sioux Falls Storm in the first round of the playoffs, the Rattlers have won six straight, including their 12-point win in week 15 over the Gladiators. Arizona was second in the IFL both with 50.6 points scored and with 35.8 points allowed during the regular season. Drew Powell threw for 170 yards and five touchdowns (to four different receivers) in the win last week over the Storm. He completed a league-high 69 percent of his passes with 30 touchdowns and seven interceptions. In addition to Davis, he is the other primary candidate for league MVP. He rushes for a league-high 64.4 yards per game with 35 scores. Veteran Darrell Monroe and rookie Nick LaSane are two more-than-capable rushers who combined for 16 scores on the ground. LaSane started in last week's game, but both may see action here. Jarrod Harrington is the go-to receiver for the Rattlers who had 52 catches for 620 yards and 11 touchdowns. Look for Jamal Miles to get targets in this one. Devin Cockrell's 65 tackles led the team, and Dillon Winfrey added 59 and a league-high 11 picks. Nikolas D'Avanzo had seven sacks.
