Salutations Sports Coast to Coast! It is I, Spiderfan the official NFL analyst of this great website and today I'm going to be delivering my musings and ramblings on Week 6 of the National Football League season. Without further ado, let us begin!
Blowout Games!
Here is a random commercial from the 90s that I found that accurately illustrates most of Sunday's contests:
-The Colts, Rams, Chiefs, Bengals, Ravens, and Cardinals (who I will talk more about later) beat their foes handily in games that (with the exception of Chiefs-Artists Formerly known as Redskins) were never close. In the case of Texans-Colts, Rams-Tinys, and Bengals-Lions, the victors were beating up on teams will compete for the #1 pick in next year's draft. In the case of Cardinals-Browns, the Cardinals blew out a solid Browns team. Finally, in the case of Chargers-Ravens, the Ravens demolished the media darling Los Angeles Chargers who had the same record as the Ravens (4-1 respectively).
-Thursday night's game between the Buccaneers and Eagles and the late window Sunday game between the Broncos and Raiders were not blowouts according to the final score, but the Eagles and Broncos scored some garbage time points to make each game look closer than it really did.
-My biggest takeaway from all of the blowouts and blowouts going as close games for Halloween, is that the Baltimore Ravens are 100 percent THE team to beat in the AFC. Yes, I know the Buffalo Bills are out there and have done some impressive things and beat the Ravens in the playoffs. However, the Ravens have beat stiffer competition and have faced and overcome adversity, something which the Bills have not done to this point.
Close Games!
-It would be remiss of me not to mention the very first game on Sunday was a last second win by the Jacksonville Jaguars over the Miami Dolphins in London. Tua's trainer on social media (I wish I could find the actual screenshots, but had no luck) mentioned recently that Brian Flores is actively losing the Dolphins locker room, which is ironic considering the reports that Urban Meyer was losing the Jaguars locker room. Congrats to Urban Meyer for his first win as a NFL HC! Congrats to Travor Lawrence for his first win as a NFL QB! Congrats to the Jaguars team and fan base for finally winning and ending their 20 game losing streak!
-Ya know the 2 hour period where I thought Geno Smith was actually going to lead the Seahawks to an upset (at least in terms of point spread and perception, not record) over the Steelers was fun. But for the second week in a row I was reminded, "Oh yeah... that's Geno Smith". I do want to give credit where it due though, and TJ Watt showed why he is the top payed defensive player in all of football as of this column, he is a total beast.
-Because I refuse to heap praise on the Cowboys due to how sloppy they played (they have over 100 yards in penalties which cost them points at various opportunities), I will instead mention this fact: Since Tom Brady left the Patriots, the Patriots have a record of 9-13 and look to be getting worse. I may regret saying this later, but I don't think the Patriots are going to make the postseason which is a 180 degree change from my postseason prediction before the season.
-Things I don't regret are 2 of my most reliable NFL truisms. Kirk Cousins plays great in regionally televised games against mediocre teams and Sam Darnold is laughably overrated and is a XFL level QB.
-Sometimes kicking a FG is a good idea. Especially when you are inside the 5 yard line and it is 4th down and you are down 3 and if you don't convert the 4th down you lose. Bills HC Sean McDermott decided otherwise and the Bills lost because of it.
Other thought:
-Aaron Rodgers does in fact own Bears fans and their team too.
ROAD TO 0-17
1 teams are currently 0-6. I will keep doing this segment that team has a win or a tie. Team currently without a win or tie is:
Detroit Lions
All I can say is I feel bad for Dan Campbell, Jared Goff, and the rest of the Lions. They've some bad calls go against them and had some bad play calling, which in combination to poor play has led to them to here. Considering the Rams demolished the Tinys and the Lions themselves got demolished, I'm inclined to think they'll continue to have this segment revolve around them for at least another week, but revenge can be a sweet thing in football, and it would be quite the revenge for Jared Goff if his first win as a Lion comes against the Rams. Crazier things have happened in the NFL this season.
ROAD TO 17-0
1 team is currently 6-0. I will keep doing this segment until that team has a loss or a tie. The team that is currently without a loss or tie is:
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals blew out the Browns without their HC Kliff Kingsbury (who also acts as the OC) or QB coach. Yes, the Browns are starting to get the injury bug, but forget that. The Cardinals showed that they have an excellent coaching staff and roster and shown yet again they can survive and thrive in adverse situations. Not only are they the best team in football, but at this point I don't even think it is really all that close.
That is all for this week everybody. As always I hope ya enjoyed and hope to see ya again next week. This is spiderfan out
