Feb. 16 - According to sources including the Arena Football League, defensive back Varmah Sonie, who started 17 games for the Thunder and earned first team All-AFL honors, has signed a three-year contract with the NFL's Cleveland Browns.
While it's early in the off-season process, the signing will give the 5'8", 175-pound Burnsville, Minnesota native an opportunity to compete for a roster spot for the Browns, who were in the battle for a playoff spot until the second-to-last week of last season.
Sonie intercepted 9 passes which he returned for 167 yards for the Thunder last season. He recorded 80 tackles with 12 assists and forced 3 fumbles. He also returned 5 kickoffs for 46 yards (8.6 average).
Sonie reflected the following during his exit interview with the Thunder in August:
"Coming in as rookies and being young, I think we played (well). We got better each game we played so that was the main part. We finished strong with the last game and the playoffs. I'm looking forward to next year."
Sonie earned Second Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference accolades during his senior season at the University of Northern Iowa. He totaled 158 tackles, 7.5 stops for loss, 16 pass breakups, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and two blocked kicks in three years as a starter.

He was so much fun to watch. The Thunder are going to miss him big time.
