So while working on a paper late Tuesday night (Wednesday morning to be exact), I took a break to check facebook and came across a post on the Blazers Fan Page, a page I enjoy perusing. They've always been great and, with the Feb. 19 NBA trade deadline looming, they posted a comment about trade rumors being just that -- rumors.
This is something I've always agreed with and, in fact, had written a blog on the old Blazers Blogger Network about three years ago. Fans were commenting on trade rumors, possible deals and the like, when I scrolled down to see a series of posts by the facebook page, Blazer Gang. This ... well, to be polite, I'll refer to the page as an "entity" ... so this entity accused Blazers Fan Page of directing a comment toward it. Obviously that was not the case, as many hold the same independent view.
Some others were already calling out this entity when I submitted my own thoughts on the ego and low basketball intelligence quotient (IQ) that it possesses.
I've had a couple conversations with this entity in the past; a little over two years ago. in which it was clear that this entity, who on twitter identifies himself as "Andre Miller," knows extremely little about the game of basketball, player movement and so forth. When you suffer from this basketball ignorance, it is the absolute definition of "low basketball IQ."
This "Andre" character is obsessed with fans jumping off the proverbial bandwagon, but has absolutely know clue what that means. My particular favorite came earlier this season after the Blazers had won nine straight, then had that streak snapped by the Grizzles on Nov. 28. He was at it again, claiming that several were jumping off the bandwagon. Clearly, this absolutely ridiculous. (the post has since been deleted, as he does with many. I'll get more to that in a bit).
See, what this entity does not understand is that there is a difference between criticizing the team for playing poorly, and jumping off a bandwagon. Heck, my seven-year-old sister knows that difference plain as day.
This "Andre" character is the founder of this entity, which seems solely based on two principles: Self promotion and trolling those who disagree with his inane basketball opinions. It is often unclear whether he is even a fan of basketball or the Blazers.
Things on the page were heating up and it was actually a little fun (as newellbrian) can attest. In addition to the back and forth between myself and some others with this entity, I engaged in a couple of other very pleasant conversations regarding one of the rumors which had been mentioned. One gentleman and I disagreed somewhat on the course of action, but it was a cordial give-and-take, and very enjoyable.
The conversation between this entity and I ended up on twitter where it got quite aggressive and he got quite immature, trying to goad me by misspelling the name of the university at which I earned my undergraduate degrees. That is where the story of this blog entry meets its title. I will mention though, that "Andre" has a propensity for tweeting something, then deleting the tweet. Once I realized this, I went to another tactic.
First here, you will see my initial comment.

This is where he begins to get threatening.

Then ... the direct threat.

Could someone please tell me what 0-100 means? Is it a Nascar thing?
Yes, those are some screen grabs which, knowing he was to delete his posts, was the best way I could capture and highlight his belligerent and hostile nature. Please note that despite the fact I am on the East Coast, my tweets and time references here are set to pacific time, as that is where I believe the majority of those reading this reside.
I do believe threats of any nature are to be taken with some seriousness. However, in no way, shape or form am I worried, concerned nor frightened. I even find this amusing since it came from such a laughable "source."
The mere reason of posting this was to show the complete and utter ridiculousness of this entity and of this "Andre" character who runs it. It's sad when someone who knows so little about basketball would think he could do any harm to anyone.
I would also like to give some props to Blazers Fan Page. They have always been great at creatively drumming up excitement and enthusiasm for the Trail Blazers. I also would like to thank them for being responsible enough to delete the conversations which were only dragging down that enthusiasm.
I call out to the reader here: Should I be worried or should I continue to give it a big old LMAO? After all, I wouldn't want to "come up missing" from anything I might say!
