BLAZERS
Portland is pretty much near where many projected them to be at this point in the season. Damian Lillard has found his shot and has been key as of late. Lillard, who scored 27 in the first meeting, had 29 in the Blazers win over the Lakers on Nov. 28. CJ McCollum has scored at least 15 points in every game this season. Ed Davis grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds in the Nov. 20 win over the Clippers. Mason Plumlee has a double-double in four of the past five games and will battle DeAndre Jordan in this match up Maurice Harkless and Allen Crabbe are keys to the Blazers bench, which has been solid most of the season. Al-Farouq Aminu could have a big night. Expect Meyers Leonard to return to his starting role. Key to a Portland win: Keep the Clippers off the boards and limit their turnovers.
CLIPPERS
Los Angeles has gotten off to a roughly rocky start this season, but they have been picked by the majority of prognosticators to finish in the top four and earn home court advantage in the Western Conference playoffs. The roster is stacked from one to 12. Blake Griffin, one of the NBA's darlings, leads the team in scoring. DeAndre Jordan is showing why his teammates coerced him into returning to La La Land after having made his initial free agency commitment to the Dallas Mavericks. Chris Paul's 8.4 assists per game are pedestrian by his standards, but he is still an NBA premiere point guard. Jamal Crawford, Austin Rivers and Paul Pierce provide an excellent supporting cast. J.J. Redick will start if he is healthy. Key to a Los Angeles win: Step on the gas and don't let up.
