The game matches the Pac-12 champion Stanford Cardinal (#6) and the Big Ten runner-up Iowa Hawkeyes (#5) in a battle of teams which landed just outside of the College Football playoff. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. (PT) on January 1. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Stanford: 11-2 overall (8-1 Pac-12 North). The Cardinal beat USC in the Pac-12 Championship game, 41-22.
Iowa: 12-1 overall (8-0 Big Ten West). The Hawkeyes lost to Michigan St. in the Big Ten Championship game, 16-13.
Notes: This will be Stanford's third Rose Bowl in the past four years. The Cardinal have won 11 or their last 12. They rank 19th in the FBS in points at 37.2 per game. Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey, the Heisman Trophy runner-up, set an NCAA record for all-purpose yards in a season, and was voted AP college football Player of the Year. The Hawkeyes were undefeated heading into their conference championship game. They will be without TE Jake Duzey, who is out with a knee injury. Iowa ranks 15th in the FBS in points allowed at 18.5 per game.
