The Spokane Empire bolstered its wide receiving corps in preparation for the 2017 season, announcing the signing of WR DeJuan Miller.
Miller (6'5'', 220 lbs) makes the trip up US-395/I-90 from Kennewick to Spokane for his fifth season, having spent the last four seasons as a member of the Tri-Cities Fever. He became a free agent when the Fever announced they would go dormant in 2017, giving him the opportunity to sign with Spokane and re-unite with head coach Adam Shackleford, the Fever's head coach from 2010-2015.
“Dejuan Miller is a big, athletic receiver with big-play ability,” Shackleford said of Miller in the Empire's press release. “Having already played several seasons for me he will be able to make an immediate impact within our offense.”
Despite the Fever's disappointing 3-13 campaign in 2016, Miller was the Fever's second leading receiver, participating in 13 games and recording 53 receptions for 657 yards and 12 touchdowns. His yardage and touchdown totals were both career highs. Since entering the IFL in 2013, he has recorded 171 receptions for 1,841 yards and 30 total touchdowns.
Prior to his professional indoor football career, Miller played the majority of his college football career at Oklahoma. From 2008-2011, Harris played in 38 total games for the Sooners in that span, recording 75 receptions for 892 yards and 2 touchdowns. His best season came during his sophomore year, making 36 receptions for 434 yards and 1 touchdown.
With the Fever's dormancy for 2017, Miller could be the first of several ex-Fever players that could find their way to Spokane for the 2017 season.
