SCtoC's Exclusive Interview with Coach McCarthy

With the 2017 Indoor Football League season rapidly approaching, last night had the opportunity to speak with Salt Lake Screaming Eagles Head Coach William McCarthy. The Screaming Eagles host the Nebraska Danger to open the IFL season on Feb. 16.

The Coach discussed a myriad of topics including the fan scouting process, building a roster of players with position flexibility, fan involvement across the globe, and even started out with a quick examination of upcoming Super Bowl LI.

McCarthy was hired on August 29 via a fan vote through Project FANchise.

Monroe College (special teams coordinator, LB coach and recruiting coordinator (2013-15); Les Cougars - France (head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, 2012-13); Everett Raptors (defensive coordinator and front office, 2011-12); Bricktown Brawlers (head coach, special teams coordinator and front office, 2010-11); Kent Predators (head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, 2010); El Paso Generals (offensive line, coach, defensive coach and special teams coordinator, 2008-09); Mercyhurst College (defensive line coach and recruiting assistant, 2008-09); Mississippi Mudcats (head coach, defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator, 2008); Vermillion Community College (co-offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator, 2007); Hutchinson Community College (RB coach and academic coordinator)."

This was an outstanding interview! I'm thrilled to have had a chance to listen. He really said a lot about everything. I like what he was saying about having players be flexible enough to play multiple positions. I was really impressed with is sense of humor and personality.

Bannock, it's obvious you put a lot of time and research into preparing for this. Thank you and awesome work!

It was tremendous how he talked about a player coming and having to buy into not just the coach, but into each other. That makes sense and I think it is a great approach. I love that Bannock used Matthew Sauk's answer from Kasey's first interview with Coach Sauk! This was a very thorough interview, despite Bannock was under the gun with the flu.
