LOVELAND, CO- Somebody call Kenny Loggins, because the Crush were in the Danger Zone. Colorado fell to Nebraska 54-36 Sunday afternoon at the Budweiser Events Center.
Colorado started the game off with a beautiful 23 yard pass fro Goodrich to Lucas at the 12 minute mark that set up the first touchdown of the game. The Crush had a fourth and goal situation when Goldrich’s pass sailed over the head of Gant. Luckily for Colorado there was an illegal defense play and Goldrich was able to run it in to give the Crush the lead.
After a bobbled snap and failed extra point, Nebraska wasted no time in answering. The ensuing return off the kickoff went all the way down to the three yard line and it took only one passing play from Bernard to Rob Brown to give the Danger a 7-6 lead early. Colorado also answered quickly with a 25 yard bomb on the ensuing possession from Goldrich to Kyle Kaiser for the touchdown. Nebraska did the same and the first quarter ended 14-13 in favor of Nebraska.
The second quarter didn't start the way the Crush wanted, as the first snap was fumbled at the line by Goldrich and recovered by the Danger, who scored just a few plays later on a 3 yard run by Bernard to make it 21-13.
Penalty flags seemed to rain down at the Budweiser events center in the game, with both teams account for a combined 16 penalties for over 100 yards in the first half alone. One of these was a pass interference call on Colorado on a 3rd and long for Nebraska’s offense that led to a nice one handed catch by Dello Davis, giving the Danger a 28-16 lead.
Colorado was able to string together a drive with time winding down in the half, and with just three seconds left, Goldrich scrambled to the right side off of a QB bootleg and found the end zone. After a successful two point conversion, the Crush finished the half only trailing by four. 28-24.
The second half began with a TD for the Danger coming from a touchdown to Stimphil with a blocked extra point. Nebraska got a lucky bounce on the ensuing kickoff, resulting in a rouge point which made the game 35-24. Dello Davis got his second of the game with a 36 yard touchdown.
Colorado got another touchdown making it 41-30, but Nebraska was quick to answer, with Stimphil getting his second touchdown on the day. Stimphil was ejected right after the score for getting his second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Trailing 48-30, Colorado was able to drive and score to pull within two scores 48-36, however Nebraska scored once more to end the game, making the final score 54-36.
The Crush head on the road for their next game, taking on the Arizona Rattlers, Saturday, March 11th at 7:00 CDT
