SPOKANE, WA - RB Trevor Kennedy, the reigning 2016 IFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, has been named Vidswap.com's Offensive Player of the Week for Week 4.
If there was any doubt about how he'd play this season, Kennedy (6'0'', 205 lbs) silenced the doubters in his second game back from injury. After making an impact in Spokane's passing game last week with 2 touchdown receptions, this week was the resurgence for Kennedy in the ground game as he helped the Empire to a 41-35 win over the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles. He gave Spokane the early lead 5 minutes into the 1st Quarter with an 11 yard touchdown run. He would score two additional rushing touchdowns in the 3rd and 4th Quarters, both of which extended the Empire's lead to 19 points. He finished the game with 13 carries for 101 yards and 3 TDs.
Kennedy's award marks the first Offensive Player of the Week honors for the Empire this season, and the third consecutive week in which an Empire player has come away with PotW honors. DBs Robert Brown and Tyree Robinson won Defensive Player of the Week honors in Week 2 and Week 3, respectively.
This week's award marks the third overall Offensive Player of the Week award. He previously won the Week 7 and Week 8 Offensive Player of the Week awards last season.
Honorable mentions for Offensive Player of the Week for Week 4 include RB Darrell Monroe (Arizona), WR Dimitri Stimphill (Nebraska), WR Devin Mahina (Salt Lake) and WR Korey Williams (Sioux Falls).
The other IFL Week 4 winners include:
Defensive Player of the Week - LB Javicz Jones, Iowa Barnstormers
Special Teams Player of the Week - KR/WR Jamal Miles, Arizona Rattlers
Celebration of the Week - TBA
This Friday, the Empire travel to Loveland, CO on a short week to take on the Colorado Crush at the Budweiser Events Center. Kickoff is scheduled at 5 p.m. PST. You can catch the action locally on the radio on 700 ESPN AM, 105.3 FM, or online at 700ESPN.com. The game will be broadcast on the IFL's Official YouTube account.
