FINAL - Danger 59, Blizzard 23
3/11/18 --
GRAND ISLAND, NE -
The Danger struck first on their first offensive play on a 20-yard pass from Damien Fleming to Gregory Dent. Fleming scored less than a minute later on a 21-yard run. Fleming then found Dent again for 8 yards to put the Danger up 21-0 at the 3:38 mark of the first quarter. Hall of Famer B.J. Hill put the Blizzard on the board with a 40-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The Danger countered on the next play on a 37-yard pass from Fleming to Eric Thomas. The Danger led 28-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Green Bay started driving, but quarterback Christian Lemay fumbled the ball and Xzavie Jackson scooped it up and ran 20 yards for the score. The Blizzard came back on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Christian Lemay to Chris Malott. Fleming then scored on a 7-yard run. They added to that with a 3-yard run and a 16-yard field goal from Brad Hatfield to enter the half with a 52-14 advantage.
The Blizzard cut into the lead late in the third on a 10-yard run from backup quarterbak Rayomd Cotton.
With the game out of reach for the Blizzard, the Danger relieved Fleming with backup quarterback Jesse Scroggins, who served as back to Verlon Reed, Jr. with the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles last season, and the Blizzard inserted Cotton.
Jordan Endries extended the lead to 52-14 with a 27-yard field goal. Fleming hit Thomas with a 27-yard touchdown strike to put the Danger up 59-17 with 2:26 left in the third quarter. Backup quarterback Raymond Coton scored on a 10-yard run with 17 second to go to close the gap.
The Danger recorded 260 yard of total offense, while the Blizzard managed 178. The difference came in the passing game where the Danger outgained the visitors. The Danger turned the ball over twice, but never suffered any serious consequences from those miscues.
It was a quiet second half compared to the first, 66 in the first half by both teams and 16 in the second.
