CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Iowa Barnstormers outscored the Cedar Rapids Titans 21-8 in the third quarter and held on to defeat the Titans, 59-45, in week 5 of Indoor Football League action.
With the win, the Barnstormers improved to 3-1 on the season, while the Titans fell to 1-4.

The Barnstormers took the early lead when Jake Medlock ran in from a yard out. The Barnstormers countered with a 30-yard pass from Drew Powell to Brady Roland. Michael Georgetti's 22-yard field goal put the Titans up 9-7 at the 6:39 mark of the first quarter. Powell then hit Roland for 13 yards to give the Barnstormers the lead before the Titans went up on Thomas Tyler's 4-yard run. Cedar Rapids led 16-14 at the end of the opening quarter.
Donavan Williams put the Barnstormers up with a 1-yard run to open the second quarter. Ryan Balentine then put Iowa up 28-14 with a 1-yard run of his own. The Titans cut into the lead on Tyler's 4-yard run. Williams' 4-yard run with 35 seconds left in the first half gave the Barnstormers a 35-23 lead, but the Titans struck back 17 seconds later on Medlock's 2-yard run. The Barnstormers took a 38-30 lead on Cody Barber's 33-yard field goal as time expired to end the half.
Powell hit Jonathan Duarte for 6 yards to open the second half. Powell ran in from 17 yards and the Barnstormers found themselves up 52-30 with 5:26 left in the third quarter. The Titans cut into the lead on Connor Hollenbeck's 17-yard pass from Medlock. The Barnstormers extended their lead to 21 points when Williams ran it in from 4 yards.
The only scoring in the fourth quarter came on a 2-yard pass from Medlock to Hollenbeck.
There were 17 accepted penalties in the game; nine by the Barnstormers and eight by the Titans. Iowa held the edge in rushing yards, 153 to 25, while the Titans had a 202 to 143. The Barnstormers converted on 83 percent of their third-down attempts. The Titans converted on 36 percent on theirs.
Powell was an impressive 13 of 14 passing for 143 yards and 3 touchdowns. His only incompletion was an interception. Powell also rushed 12 times for 58 yards and a touchdown. Williams had 93 yards on 20 carries and a score. Roland caught 8 passes for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Bryce Enyard, Rush Imhotep and Zachary Allen each had 6 total tackles. Enyard also recorded an interception. B.J. Butler had a sack for the Barnstormers.
Medlock was effective, completing 26 of 43 passes for 2015 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 2 touchdowns. Thomas accumulated 18 yards on 5 carries with two scores. Marquel Wade finished with 7 receptions for 71 yards, while Hollenbeck caught 7 passes for 53 yards and 2 touchdowns. Elijah Lee had 10.5 total tackles and James Calhoun had the interception on Powell.
