FINAL - Storm 45, Danger 37
4/7/18 --
GRAND ISLAND, NE - The Sioux Falls Storm took an early two-touchdown lead and were able to hold off a pesky Nebraska Danger team to capture a 45-37 win in week 7 of the Indoor Football League season tonight at Eihusen Arena.
The Storm improved to 4-1, while the Danger fell to 4-2.
It didn't take long for the Storm to get on the board. Lorenzo Brown's 18-yard strike to Judd Harrold on the first play of the game put the Storm up 7-0 early. The Danger came back, mounting an eight-play, 33-yard drive capped by Jesse Scroggins II's 11-yard toss to Eric Thomas. Brown's 30-yard bomb to Mike Tatum gave the Storm a 14-7 lead with 4:57 left in the opening quarter.
The Storm extended their lead to 21-7 on a 5-yard run from Lyle McCombs mid way through the second quarter. The Danger scored three minutes later on a 13-yard pass from Scroggins to Kenzel Doe. Sioux Falls closed out the second quarter when Brown found Harrold open at the one yard line. Harrold easily stepped into the end zone and the Storm led 28-13 at the half.
The teams traded missed field goals to open the third quarter. Brad Hatfield cut into the Storm's lead when he nailed a 33-yard field goal at the 4:54 mark of the third quarter. The Storm went back up by 15 points when Miles Bergner's 38-yard field goal try hit the right upright and bounced through.
Nebraska scored on a 9-yard pass from Scroggins to Angelo Pease to make the score 31-23. The Storm scored on Tatum's 20-yard touchdown catch from Brown with 9:38 left in the fourth quarter. Scroggins found Thomas for a 5-yard touchdown grab to pull the Danger to within a single score with 8:41 left. On their first play from scrimmage, Scroggins' pass was tipped and intercepted by the Storm's Jabari Gorman, who returned it 15 yards for the touchdown to put the Danger up 45-30 with 4:30 remaining.
The Danger scored again on Gregory Dent, Jr.'s 25-yard touchdown pass from Scroggins. Sioux Falls recovered the onside kick and were able to run out the clock.
