SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm marched out to an early 28-7 lead in the first half and never let up as they dispensed of the Cedar Rapids Titans i week 9 of the Indoor Football league season tonight at Denny Sanford Premiere Center.
The Storm improved to 5-2 with the win, while the Titans fell to 1-6. The Storm are now 11-3 all-time against the Titans.
Quarterback Lorenzo Brown scored on a 36-yard run on the first play of the game. Brown put the Storm up 14-0 with a four-yard run at the 11:10 mark of the first quarter. Raphael Lawson-Gayle put the Titans on the board with a four-yard run. Then Lyle McCombs ran it in from two yards out and the Storm led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter
Brown ran it again, from a yard out, to give the Storm a 28-7 lead just over two minutes into the second quarter. The Titans came back and scored on a four-yard pass from Jake Medlock to Javon Bell.Sioux Falls stormed ahead with a pair of 30-yard touchdowns from Brown to Karim Jones and Judd Harrold, respectively. Miles Bergner's 24-yard field goal put the Storm up 45-13 at the half.
Raphael Lawson-Gayle's 25-yard touchdown catch from Medlock pulled the Titans to within 25 points before Brown found Connor Hollenbeck for 12 yards to once again put the Storm up at the 6:06 mark of the third quarter. Bergner's 36-yard field goal put the Storm up 55-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
Lawson-Gayle, who may have established himself as a Titans running threat, scored on a 11-yard run early in the fourth quarter. Bergner hit a field goal, then the Titans scored on a one-yard run. Bergner countered with a 36-yard field goal. Medlock scored on a on-yard run, followed by Mike Tatum's six-yard trip to the end zone for the Storm. Medlock found Hollenbeck for a two-yard, and the Storm were able to ice the game.
The Storm held a 277- to 245-yard advantage in total offense, and out-rushed the Titans 137 to 76 in the rushing game. The Titans were penalized 8 times for 59 yards, and the Storm were flagged 5 times for 45 yards.
Brown only attempted 10 passes, but completed 8 of them. That accounted for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also rushed 6 times for 77 yards and 3 touchdowns. McCombs rushed 13 times for 51 yards and a touchdown. Hollenbeck had a pair of catches, both for touchdowns. He tallied 63 receiving yards. Marquel Wade caught 5 passes for 57 yards, and Javon Bell also caught a touchdown pass. Jabari Gorman's 9-0 total tackles lest the Storm defense. Chris Martin recorded a sack and forced a fumble.
Medlock, who leads the IFL in most major passing categories, wend 21 of 34 for 174 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed for a score. Daniel Lindsey hauled in 4 passes for 70 yards. Recently signed Brandon Wainwright recorded a sack for the Storm.
The Rattlers will host the Green Bay Blizzard on April 21 at 6:05 p.m. pacific (8:05 p.m. central). The Storm will be at home against the Cedar Rapids Titans on April 21 with kickoff set for 5:05 p.m. pacific (7:05 p.m. central).
