So I didn't have time to make a video on the subject but I think a post here should be good. Without further ado here are my thoughts going into tonight's draft.
-Saquon Barkley, Quentin Nelson, and Bradley Chubb are all great players who deserve to be top picks. Nelson or Chubb seem to be the best players in the draft IMO as Barkley played in the Big 10, which for those of you who don't know isn't that good of a football conference. I also want to mention Marcus Davenport who I like but also played in non that good of a football conference.
-Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson are the best QBs in the draft. Baker Mayfield was one of the most efficient passers in college football and led his team to the College Football Playoff something which none of the other QBs did. He also won the Heisman and was a finalist the year Lamar Jackson won his.
Lamar Jackson was the most electrifying player in college football and when compared to Virginia Tech legend Mike Vick, Vick said of Jackson "he's five times better than me". As mentioned earlier Jackson also won the Heisman and while Louisville's record wasn't great that is because Jackson had a TERRIBLE supporting cast around him. His statistics this past year were also better than his Heisman year.
Both of these guys should go above any other QB in the draft and any team who passes on them will regret it.
-Josh Allen is the next Jamarcus Russell. That may sound like the hottest take ever but hear me out. Whenever you hear about Josh Allen the only positive anyone really points to is his arm strength. You know who also had good arm strength? Jamarcus Russell. There are stories of him throwing the ball 70 yards in practice. Sound familiar?
Not only that but his stock has solely risen because of Carson Wentz's success at a small school in NDST. Just because one guy did good at a small school doesn't instantly mean another guy is good coming from a small school. You have to dig deeper than "He is from Wyoming? He had Wentz's old coach? He can throw 70 yards? This guy must be great!"
-Sam Darnold is incredibly overrated. He had 26 TDs and 22 TO's last year. That isn't good folks despite what people will tell you. He also played at his worst in the biggest games for USC vs Washington St (where he had a game losing fumble) vs Notre Dame (where the team got beat 49-14), and in the Cotton Bowl (where Darnold had 3 turnovers and no touchdowns).
Put Lamar Jackson or Baker Mayfield on that USC team and I bet you they make the CFP.
-Josh Rosen is a decent player but has personality questions that make him tricky to deal with. I see him falling in the draft because of this.
So now to my mock draft of sorts. Now I have no idea where the other players in the draft are going but I think I have an idea where the QBs are going based on various reports and things.
No. 1 Cleveland Browns select Josh Allen, University of Wyoming.
No. 2 New York Football Tinys select Sam Darnold, University of Southern California.
No. 3 New York Jets select Baker Mayfield, University of Oklahoma.
No. 17 Los Angeles Chargers select Josh Rosen, University of California-Los Angeles
No. 23 New England Patriots select Lamar Jackson, University of Louisville
What happened the last time 5 QBs went in the 1st round?
No. 1 Cleveland Browns selected Tim Couch, University of Kentucky (had a decent career and is arguably the best QB to play for the post 1999 Browns)
No. 2 Philadelphia Eagles selected Donovan McNabb, Syracuse University (Hall of Very Good player)
No. 3 Cincinnati Bengls selected Akili Smith, University of Oregon (Total bust)
No. 11 Minnesota Vikings selected Daunte Culpepper, University of Central Florida (had a good career that was sadly ruined by injuries)
No. 12 Chicago Bears selected Cade McNown, University of California-Los Angeles (Another total bust)
