Hey everybody, it is me spiderfan here! Being that Week 7 of the National Football League has concluded it is time for me to give my Random Thoughts and Stuff. Let us begin!
About the Ostrich-Redskins game
As you may know the Ostriches beat the Jags 40-7 last week. That win was big enough that Papa Ostrich looked like he was going to give Coach Ostrich an extension.
With all of that said, it became apparent during the first quarter of the game against the Redskins that, the game against the Jaguars was a fluke and the Ostriches are in fact, not that good of a football team. Zeke is only good offensive weapon that they have and when he is shut down (which the Redskins did) the Ostrich offense is terrible. The defense is overrated and the coaching is some of the worst in the NFL.
Now I could talk about Coach Ostriches very questionable late game management, but I'll let Tony Romo (who is quite possibly the best color analyst in the business) explain it instead.
There was some controversy as to whether other or not there should have been a snap infraction on the Ostriches which ultimately made the FG 52 yards instead of 47 yards. Guess what, it doesn't matter. Y'know why it doesn't matter? Because the Ostriches should have never put themselves in position for that to even happen. Not only did Coach Ostrich mess up the field position game, Papa Ostrich and Little Ostrich made the brilliant decision to cut the 2nd most accurate kicker in NFL history in Dan Bailey instead of keeping him. I'll also remind everyone that they made the brilliant decision to cut WR Dez Bryant who would have been great to have in a potential game winning drive scenario.
The loss against the Redskins was an organizational failure from the players to the coaches to the management to the ownership. They all deserve it.
As for the Redskins they are now in the driver's seat in the NFC East and while they've shown some signs of inconsistency, they are 4-2 and clearly the best team in the division. Hail to the Redskins, folks.
A New Challenger Appears!
The Ostriches are now 3-4 and their chances of winning the division as thin as a Slim Jim. They've needed a no. 1 WR since the release of Dez Bryant. The Ostriches are in full desperation mode as Papa Ostrich is going to have all sorts of pressure on him to make organizational changes he has no desire to make when the Ostriches go 6-10 or 7-9. What is the Hail Mary attempt that Papa Ostrich and Little Ostrich decide to throw? Trading a 2019 1st round pick for Raiders WR Amari Cooper.
Amari Cooper is going to end up being worse than Dez Bryant, because statistically he is around the same and unlike Dez has had no time in the Cowboys offense and has Dak at QB who couldn't handle having an actual no. 1 WR. Cooper is also going to be on the last year of his contract which is going to cost close to 14 million dollars and he is going to want an extension worth close to that per year.
The Ostriches could have had Dez for half of that, still had a first round pick, and have a better WR. Nope. Apparently, Dez's actual caring about the team's success bothered Little Ostrich and Coach Ostrich enough that they would rather pay more money, have no first round pick, and a worse WR than deal with Dez. What a way to go out of your way to stick your head in the sand Ostriches, enjoying reaping what you sow, you incompetent losers.
Meanwhile, the Raiders are in full rebuild mode and have 3 first round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. Jon Gruden may be playing with one of those cheap checker sets you can buy at Dollar General, but I think he is playing chess. Think about it, instead of paying wazillions of dollars to Khalil Mack, Amari Cooper, and Derek Carr he can have Ed Oliver, Hollywood Brown, and Dwayne Haskins for WAY less, have an insane amount of cap space, and have a new young core to sell to the city of Las Vegas. Trust the Gruden, people.
Troubles in Jacksonville
The Jaguars are in freefall and desperately need a spark. During the game against the Texans, HC Doug Marrone tried to do that by benching starting QB Blake Bortles for backup QB Cody Kessler after Bortles had 2 fumbles that led to points for the Texans. Kessler actually played good, and should have been named starter over Bortles for the upcoming game against the Eagles but wasn't.
There is discontent in locker room, primarily from defensive players who are mad that the offense isn't producing. Admittedly, RB Leonard Fournette is hurt which messes things up because 1.) Fournette is a stud and 2.) Bortles needs the running game to be good to distract opposing defenses from how bad he is.
If I'm Tom Coughlin I'm signing Dez Bryant as not only is he good, but he'll add leadership to the offense. I'm also trading for a new QB. There are a number of options Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh McCown, Sam Bradford, Tyrod Taylor, or Eli Manning. Any one of those guys will improve your QB position and while a new QB and Dez might not be an instant fix, it would give the team and the fanbase hope, something which they need right now.
The Football Gods have cursed the Cleveland Browns
Bucs kicker Chandler Catanzaro missed an extra point and a 40 yard FG on Sunday. Bucs HC Dirk Koetter made the strange decision to bring Catanzaro out for a 59 yard try, presumably so when he missed it the Bucs could give more reason as to why he was cut on Monday. The Browns looked to get the ball back and try to win the game themselves. Then the unthinkable happened. Catanzaro made the field goal (click Watch on YouTube)
All I can say is, Believeland keep believing because of one of these days whatever curse is on you will expire. Just ask the Cubs and Red Sox.
Blues in Baltimore
While the Browns fell to an unthinkable long FG, the team that used to be the Browns (yeah it gets confusing) and the most accurate kicker in NFL history Justin Tucker lost the game against the Saints because of this (click Watch on YouTube):
Justin Tucker up to that point had never missed an extra point ever in his entire career. Truly crazy.
Congrats NFL, you finally figured it out!
With the success of the Kansas City Chiefs led by The Truth himself Patrick Mahomes, I want to bring up that there was doubt (I never had doubt BTW, I'm referring to other people) as to whether Mahomes would have success because of the "gimmicky" offense he played in at Texas Tech.
Well, Chiefs HC Andy Reid decided to create a version of the Air Raid for himself and it is working spectacularly. Guess what, there is a reason places in college have run that style of offense for years, because it works. A few years ago, someone like Lincoln Riley would have never been mentioned as a potential NFL HC, yet here we are and I think the NFL is better off for it.
Other thoughts:
-Congrats to Vance Joseph for saving his job against the Cardinals.
-Congrats to Dan Quinn for likely saving his job against the Tinys.
-How bout the Panthers with the 17 point 4th quarter comeback? Norv Turner as a candidate for Cowboys HC, book it.
-Mike Vrabel was stupid to go for the win. Too many stakes to make that call IMO.
-The Chargers are a quiet 5-2, for their sake let us all hope something REALLY bad doesn't happen to them.
-I'm starting to wonder if my takes on the Vikings and Lions were too hot, I'm not going to admit I'm wrong just yet though.
-I feel bad for Kevin White
-The Texans are 4-3 and are by far the worst team to be leading their respective division in the NFL.
ROAD TO 16-0
The Rams of Los Angeles have lost or tied this season. I will keep doing this segment until one of things happens.
The Rams are now 7-0 and I feel pretty good about about them making Super Bowl 53. I'm not sure if they go undefeated, it'll be fun to see if they do though.
I have now given my Random Thoughts & Stuff on Week 7 of the National Football League season, I hope you enjoyed, and I hope you come back again next week for more. This is spiderfan out.
