The Indoor Football League began its 2019 season over the weekend with some exciting and entertaining games. The best of the three occurred in Cedar Rapids Illinois where a young and energetic RiverKings squad gave the six time champion Sioux Falls Skyforce all it can handle and then some before bowing to the Storm on a last second field goal. The Riverkings look like the real thing in 2019 and may make the playoffs given the expanded league if hey continue too play like they did in this game. The downside too this game maybe the size of the crowd reported to be around 1,000. The RiverKings should overcome this if the team plays well and suprises a few of the leagues top teams this season. The league debut three new franchises in Quad City, Bismark, and Sandiedgo. The QUAD city franchise looked poised and polished as it wore down a hard challenge from the San Diedgo Strike Force and its quarterback Derrick BERNARD who formerly played in the league with the Nebraska Danger. The Danger looked tough in shakening off an early challenge from an upstart Bismark team that might be scratching the surface of its potential that it showed last seaon in the Champions Indoor Football League. Arizona was a bit sluggish in the early going against a fired up Green Bay Blizzard but they got it going behind a huge performance from its quarterback unit that includes former IFL Rookie of the Year Verlon Reed. The Rattlers got a key defensive stop in the third and went on to claim a well earned victory.
