GREEN BAY, WI - Keshaun Taylor's leaping touchdown grab of five yards from Lenorris Footman with 9.7 seconds remaining lifted the Green Bay Blizzard past the Quad City Steamwheelers, 53-47, tonight at the Resch Center.
The Blizzard improved to 4-2 on the season, while the Steamwheelers fell to 2-4. The Blizzard completed the sweep over the Steamwheelers with the win. Green Bay scored the winning touchdown with 12 second left on March 29 to emerge with a 39-26 win in Moline, Illinois. This was the second of a back-to-back between the teams.
Green Bay scored on the first play from scrimmage when Footman found Kezlow Smith for a 40-yard touchdown. However, Quad City returned the favor on their first play when E.J. Hilliard, Jr. found Keyvan Rudd for a 25-yard touchdown. Footman rushed in from a yard out, but the two-point conversion pass failed and the Blizzard were up 13-7 with 9:53 remaining in the opening quarter. Zavier Steward's five-yard pass from Hilliard gave the Steamwheelers a 14-13 lead three minutes later. Footman hit Taylor for a six-yard touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff the Blizzard added rouge point which gave them a 20-14 lead by the end of the quarter.
Hilliard hit Rudd for a 45-yard touchdown, but the extra point attempt was no good, resulting in a 20-20 tie just 11 seconds into the second quarter. B.J. Hill caught an 18-yard touchdown from Footman, then Footman found Smith for a 14-yard touchdown just into the one-minute warning to give Green Bay a 34-20 lead. Hilliard found Carlos Wiggins for a two-yard touchdown as time expired in the opening half. The Blizzard held a 34-27 lead at the intermission.
There was only one score in the third quarter; that coming on a six-yard run from Hilliard early in the quarter, but a two-point conversion run by Quinton Pedroza was stopped short. Green Bay's lead was 34-33 heading into the final quarter.
Footman's one-yard run with 10:24 left extended the Blizzard's led to 41-33. Steward's four-yard run pulled the Steamwheelers to within two points midway through the fourth quarter. Green Bay went back up by eight on Footman's five-yard pass to Taylor with just over a minute to play. After Wiggins gave the Steamwheelers exceptional field position by returning the ensuing kickoff to the Green Bay three yard line. Steward plunged in from the one, then rushed in for the two-point conversion to tied it up at 47-47 with 43.3 seconds remaining. The Blizzard started their next drive on their one 14 yard line, culminating with Footman's game winner to Taylor.
Footman had his best game of the season, throwing six touchdown passes while rushing for two more.
