FINAL - Blizzard 60, Danger 50

GREEN BAY, WI - Lenorris Footman rushed for four second half touchdowns and Bakari Triggs had a key fourth quarter interception he run back for a touchdown to lead the Green Bay Blizzard to a 60-50 win over the visiting Nebraska Danger tonight at the Resch Center.
With the win, the Blizzard move to 5-2 on the season. They extended their win streak to four games, their longest since the 2012 season. They have won the past four over the Danger. Nebraska fell to 3-4 with the loss. Green Bay rallied to defeat Nebraska 53-52 in week 2 of the season at Green Bay.
After the teams exchanged missed field goals, the Blizzard got on the board with a 35-yard field goal from Ed Ruhnke, who was just signed earlier in the week. The Danger came right back, scoring on a one-yard plunge from quarterback Tommy Armstrong, Jr. B.J. Hill's nine-yard run put Green Bay up 10-7 with 2:25 left in the opening quarter.
Nebraska once again took the lead on a two-yard touchdown run around the left side from Davonte Sapp-Lynch. The Blizzard went up 17-14 on Rameses Owens' 13-yard scamper with 6:30 remaining in the first half. Each team missed field goals prior to the half, and the Blizzard went into intermission with the three-point advantage.
After receiving the opening kickoff of the second half, the Blizzard opened up a 10-point lead as Lenorris Footman rushed in from two yards out. The Blizzard got the ball back after a missed field goal and capitalized, scoring on a 27-yard run from Footman to take a 31-14 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the third quarter. Nebraska ended a 22-minute scoring draught on Armstrong's one-yard run with 3:00 left in the quarter. Footman scored his third rushing touchdown of the quarter on a two-yard run as time expired in the third. The Blizzard headed into the final quarter with a 38-20 lead.
Nebraska's Tavaris McCormick returned the Blizzard's kickoff down to the Green Bay 13-yard line. They scored on one play, a 13-yard pass from Armstrong to Dent. Footman's two-yard run with just over 10 minutes left in the contest put the Blizzard up 45-27. The Danger pulled to within 10 on Armstrong's 20 yard pass to Gregory Dent, Jr., and Armstrong's pass to Dent for the two-point conversion. The Danger got the ball back after a blocked field goal attempt, but on the first play Blizzard Triggs stepped in front of a Danger receiver, intercepted Armstrong and returned it 39 yards for the touchdown. Triggs, the holder on extra point attempts, took a bad snap and ran it around the left side for the two-point conversion. Triggs leads the IFL with four defensive interceptions; two of which he has now returned for touchdowns.
Nebraska scored with 47 seconds left on Armstrong's five-yard touchdown to Dent and added a two-point conversion run to narrow the score to 53-43. Following a fumble by Footman, the Danger pulled to within three at 53-50 when Armstrong found Johnny Jackson IV for 24 yards for the score. Owens put the icing on the cake for the Blizzard with a six-yard run with six seconds remaining.
The Blizzard outgained the Danger in total offensive yards, 234 to 187, including a 124-yard advantage in the rushing game. Nebraska had a 150 to 73 advantage in passing yards. The Danger were penalized nine times for 76 penalties while the Blizzard were flagged eight times for 70 yards.
Footman finished seven of 13 for 78 yards, and rushed 19 times for 121 yards and four scores. Ramses Owens had seven caries for 37 yards and a score, while B.J. Hill scored on his only rushing atempts. Hill also caught three passes for 20 yards. Keshaun Taylor led the Blizzard with 3 receptions for 37 yards. Joe Powell led the way for the defense with nine tackles, while Silverberry Mouhon recorded a sack.
Armstrong went 14 of 27 for 150 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for a pair of touchdowns. Sapp-Lynch amassed 28 yards off 10 carries with a score. Dent led all receivers with eight catches for 81 yards and three touchdown grabs. Chris Martin had six tackles and a sack, and Lavaious Varnado recovered a fumble for the Danger defense.
The teams meet again next week for the third and final time this season. They will be in Grand Island as the Danger host the Blizzard on April 20 with kickoff scheduled for for 5:05 p.m. pacific (7:05 p.m. central).
