ANALYSIS
In this 2017 United Bowl rematch the Rattlers will look to maintain their undefeated record, while the Storm hope to avenge their 58-40 loss to the Rattlers in Phoenix during week 6. In that game, Sioux Falls quarterback Lorenzo Brown, Jr. completed just six of 13 passes for 86 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He also lost two fumbles. The key for the Storm in this game will be to protect the ball. A bright spot for them was the emergence of Calen Campbell, who rushed for two touchdowns and returned a kickoff for another in the loss. Jeff Ziemba completed 12 of 17 passes for 143 yards with a touchdown and two picks. Ziemba also rushed for a pair of scores for the Rattlers in the win. Arizona has signed last season's IFL Most Valuable Player in QB Drew Powell, who led the Iowa Barnstormers to a win over the Storm in last year's United Bowl. Either could get the start, though both should be expected to get some playing time in this game. The Rattlers defeated the Storm in the United Bowl two years ago, 50-41. The Storm topped the Rattlers in last year's Intense Conference Championship game, 69-68, in overtime. This is the seventh all-time meeting between the Rattlers and the Storm. Arizona leads the series, 4-2 overall, including a 3-1 mark in the regular season.
Ziemba is completing 65.9 percent of his passes for 741 yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has rushed for four touchdowns this season. Powell was sensational for the Barnstormers last season, completing 68.1 percent of his throws for 1,604 yards with 34 touchdowns and four interceptions. He led the IFL with 78.8 rushing yards per game and was third in the IFL with 23 rushing scores. The Rattlers have three running backs on the roster, but they are likely to carry just two on the active list for this game. Jabre Lolley comes in with 48.8 yards per game and 12 touchdowns. Roland Genesy, Jr. made his debut last week against the Strike Force, going for 75 yards off 12 carries with three touchdowns, and veteran Darrell Monroe rushed 10 times for 64 yards and two scores in his lone appearance of the season. Jarrod Harrington, Jamal Miles and Sheldon Augustine have 16 combined touchdown catches on the season, and Harrington leads the group with 28 receptions for 349 yards. Davontae Merriweather leads the defense with 56 tackles, three interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries. Allen Chapman, Phillip Henry and Dillon Winfrey each have five interceptions, while Ricky Wyatt, Jr. leads the team with five sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss to go along with his 48 tackles. Jimmy Camacho is 53 of 61 on his extra point tries this season, and two of five on field goal attempts with a long of 22 yards.
The Storm will be looking for a big game from Brown, a two-time IFL champion. He is fourth in the IFL with 140.4 passing yards per game and has completed 60.9 percent of his passes with 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Brown has 74 rushes for 249 yards and 11 rushing scores. Campbell has exploded on the scene for Sioux Falls. He is rushing for 41.5 yards per game and has seven touchdowns in just four games, as well as a kickoff returned for a touchdown. Brandon Sheperd leads the receiving group with 26 receptions for 462 yards with seven touchdowns. His 66 yards per game is good for second in the IFL. Damian Ford comes in having caught 20 passes for 300 yards and a team-leading eight touchdowns. Kent Shelby, with three touchdown grabs, rounds out the group. Campbell could also see some targets out of the backfield in the passing game. Matt McKoy's 37 tackles and two interceptions lead the Storm defense, while T.J. Neal adds 33 tackles and Rick Rumph 31. Claude Davis has six tackles for loss to go with his 1.5 sacks through the first half of the season. Parker Douglass made his debut last week filling in for the injured Miles Bergner. He has hit three of his five extra point attempts and one of two field goal tries; that being of 37 yards.
