Tra'Von Chapman is a 6'1", 205-lb. rookie from the University of Akron. He is listed on the Storm roster as the team's backup quarterback. As of late he has been utilized as a wide receiver; a position with which he is not only familiar, but has had success in college. Under center, he has completed two of five passes for 28 yards on the season. He has rushed for a touchdown this season, and is tied for third on the team with 11 catches for 93 yards and two scoring catches. He led Akron as a senior with 53 receptions for 475 yards and two touchdowns as senior. The son of former Kent St. University wide receivers coach Thad Jamison, he has a bachelor's degree in sports management and is working on his master's degree in education.
Chapman answers our questions below.
1. What do you consider to be your greatest achievement in football so far?
Switching from QB to WR my senior season at the University of Akron and being the team's leading receiver. And, being named Third Team All-MAC.
2. What were your first impressions of the prospect of playing indoor football?
First impression was that it would be a lot of fun to use my talents and try a new opportunity. It's a blessing to be playing indoor football.
3. What was it that made you want to come and try out for the team?
God's voice. I had sort of given up on ball but after truly letting God speak to me, I decided to take the leap of faith. Whenever God speaks, you move.
4. Who has inspired you most in your football career and in life?
My biggest inspiration in football has come from my father and wanting to be better than he was.
5. What is your biggest long-term goal for your football career?
My vision is to be the greatest IFL player I can be and let God lead me to higher destinations; AAF/Canada/NFL.
6. What would you like to accomplish this season?
Championship. Be one of the most elusive and dangerous players in the IFL. Greatness at both QB and WR. Do all for the team and utilize my full ability.
7. What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming season?
Having fun playing the game again.
8. Please describe how important your family has been to you during your football journey?
My family is everything to me. They are my rock and it's because of them that I go so hard.
9. What is at the heart of your desire to continue your football career?
God. He's my fuel to continue pursuing football. Chasing God in everything that I do. I play for the love but most importantly I play for God.
10. What would you like IFL fans to know about you?
I am a man of strong faith in God. My values and beliefs help define my character. I am not just a football player. This is one of many talents that I have been blessed with. I want to inspire the youth to keep going, chase God and their dreams no matter what.
