With the COVID-19 pandemic canceling the final week and the entirety of the playoffs for the Western Hockey League, the league has begun to announce post-season award honors. On Monday, the WHL began with the announcement of the Eastern and Western Conference Second Team All-Stars, followed by the Eastern and Western Conference First Team All-Stars on Tuesday.
The WHL Conference All-Stars were voted upon by the General Managers of all 22 WHL teams.
In the Eastern Conference, the Lethbridge Hurricanes had the most All-Star Selections with three (2 First Team, 1 Second Team).
Meanwhile, in the Western Conference, three teams from the U.S. Division (Everett Silvertips, Portland Winterhawks, Spokane Chiefs) led the way with three All-Star selections. Of the three teams, both Portland and Spokane had the most First Team selections (2 First Team, 1 Second Team) while Everett saw 1 First Team and 2 Second Team selections.
The Brandon Wheat Kings (2 First Team selections), Prince Albert Raiders (1 First Team, 1 Second Team), and Edmonton Oil Kings (2 Second Team) made up a fair majority of the Eastern Conference All-Star teams. In the Western Conference, the BC Division winning Kamloops Blazers also had two selections (1 First Team, 1 Second Team).
The Calgary Hitmen, Medicine Hat Tigers and Winnipeg ICE all had 1 All Star representative, but only Medicine Hat had a First Team All-Star Selection. Meanwhile, the Vancouver Giants rounded out the Western Conference All-Stars with one representative making the Second Team.
No members of the Kelowna Rockets, Moose Jaw warriors, Prince George Cougars, Red Deer Rebels, Regina Pats, Saskatoon Blades, Seattle Thunderbirds, Swift Current Broncos, Tri-City Americans or Victoria Royals were selected for All-Star honors this season.
