The third of the week of the NFL has concluded so without further ado, I'm Spiderfan the official NFL Analyst for SCtoC and this is Web of Football. Let us begin!
Russell Wilson is better than Dak Prescott
For all of Jason Garrett's and the previous coaching staff of the Cowboys faults, I can't say I remember the Cowboys looking this bad. You may say to yourself "but the final score was 38-31 Spiderfan, the Cowboys played a great team in the Seahawks competitively". My response? If it weren't for DK Metcalf not realizing a defender was right behind him, the score would be 45-31 and you wouldn't be saying it was competitive.
See, despite Cowboys OC Kellen Moore running his gimmicky wanna be Air Raid offense, the Seahawks have a guy by the name of Russell Wilson quarterbacking their team and the Cowboys have a guy named Dak Prescott quarterbacking theirs, and despite the DFW media complex and most of the Cowboys fanbase opinion stating otherwise, Prescott isn't that good and doesn't deserve the massive contract he desperately wants. And speaking of Kellen Moore, the offense has actually managed to take a step back from last year, because this year the Cowboys are turnover prone. Another layer to garbage sandwich? The defense which is so bad that new DC Mike Nolan makes previous DCs Kris Richard and Rod Marinelli look like they were defensive masterminds because apparently switching the defensive scheme that all the players were used to is not a problem, but keeping the failed Air Raid experiment on offense would have been. Yeah, Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy went out of his way to keep Kellen Moore and clean out the rest of the coaching staff which now looks like a terrible mistake because the final layer of the garbage sandwich has been the special teams which have been laughably bad until ST coach John Fassel.
With all of that said though, I again I have to mention Russell Wilson because he is playing on another level to start this season. The most TD passes to start a season by any QB ever? That is wild and with a soft schedule coming up, I would expect Wilson's high level of play to continue.
The GORN (Greatest of Right Now) beats the MVP
For all the talk of a Patrick Mahomes-Lamar Jackson rivalry, in the 3 games that they have played against each other thus far, only one has been competitive... and it was the first one, not the one that went down on Monday night. The Ravens were flat out outplayed. The Chiefs offense had their way with a Ravens defense that up until this point was the best in the league completely, and the Chiefs defense had their way with one of the best offenses in the league completely neutralizing Ravens QB Lamar Jackson in the process. Keep in mind that the Chiefs had some missed kicks, a turnover on downs, and a redzone fumble and still won by 2 possessions 34-20. The Ravens were fortunate to not be completely humiliated by the Chiefs.
Despite thinking that the Chiefs would win, I thought it would be more competitive, but apparently the Chiefs have the Ravens number. The Patriots should watch out next week for the Chiefs defense, because the Patriots play a similar style of football to the Ravens with a less talented roster.
Other thoughts:
-I know Saquon is out for the year, but the fact that the Tinys got completely destroyed by a 49ers team consisting of backups at key positions, shows that the Tinys are and will continue to be a dumpster fire for a long time.
-Congrats to the Browns for having a winning record during a season for the first time since 2014!
-The Patriots with Cam are for real folks.
-Ties should never be a tie and yet because the NFL is stupid and allows them, the Bengals and Eagles have one on their records.
-Congrats to the Bills for surviving the Rams rally!
-Congrats to Phil Rivers on his 400th career TD pass!
-Tom Brady now has chemistry with Mike Evans. Watch out.
-Aaron Rodgers is amazing isn't he?
ROAD TO 0-16
6 teams are currently 0-3. I will keep doing this segment until every team has a win or a tie. Teams currently without a win or tie are:
New York Tinys
New York Jets
Denver Broncos
Houston Texans
Minnesota Vikings
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons had a 16 point lead in the 4th quarter against what has been a solid Bears team. The Falcons after being suffering the of the mind numbing loss since... they lost the Super Bowl, looked to have redemption and a win that the team could build on and maybe save their season. Ok, so the punchline is that Bears HC Matt Nagy benched incumbent QB Mitch Trubisky for Nick Foles and then Foles would lead a furious 4th quarter comeback throwing 3 TD passes. Apparently, the Falcons saw my prediction that they would be the worst team in football and said "Yeah, sure." The players like Dan Quinn have gone on late season garbage runs to keep him from being fired, but if Falcons owner Arthur Blank decides to finally kick Quinn to the curb in the near future, the Falcons will get low morale and will absolutely be the worst team in football. Gotta double down on that prediction of mine.
The teams most likely to 0-16 IMO are the Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings, and the New York Tinys.
ROAD TO 16-0
7 teams are currently 3-0. I will keep doing this segment until every team has a loss or a tie. Teams currently without a loss or tie are:
Buffalo Bills
Kansas City Chiefs
Pittsburgh Steelers
Tennessee Titans
Seattle Seahawks
Green Bay Packers
Chicago Bears
The Bears were trailing 16 points against a not very good Falcons team. Incumbent Bears QB Mitch Trubisky wasn't playing all that good and ok, you already know where this is going because of the previous segment. Nick Foles came in and gave the team a huge spark that ultimately led to them winning in comeback fashion. I must say that with a 2-0 record and a previous comeback win over the Lions, I was surprised that Trubisky got benched at this point in the season. But ultimately the only opinion that matters on that front is Bears HC Matt Nagy's and he has now stated that Foles will be the starter of the Bears going forward. With Foles as the starter? If Foles plays like he did with the Eagles and not the Jaguars, Da Bears are gonna make some noise in the NFC. It will be fun to watch for sure.
Teams most likely to 16-0 IMO are the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks.
