The following is the full schedule for the United Football League's 2024 inaugural season.
The UFL was created created out of the merger of the USFL and the XFL. The USFL was the second incarnation of the United States Football League, beginning play in 2022. The XFL was the second incarnation of Vince McMahon's XFL, which began in 2020 and was shut down due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. The assets of the XFL were auctioned off and purchased by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, business partner and former wife Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital founder Gerry Cardinale.
The two leagues formally announced the formal merger as the "United Football League" on December 31, 2023 during the NFL's Fox NFL Sunday pregame show. On January 1st, 2024, the league formally announced its charter teams on ESPN's College GameDay program.
The UFL is made up of eight franchises, and are owned and operated by the league in a single entity business model.
The XFL sees four of its eight teams from 2023 join the new league as part of the UFL's "XFL Conference." The XFL Champion Arlington Renegades, DC Defenders, San Antonio Brahmas and St. Louis Battlehawks join the new league, while the Orlando Guardians, Seattle Sea Dragons, and Vegas Vipers folded.
The USFL sees three of its eight teams from 2023 joint he new league as part of the UFL's "USFL Conference." The UFL Champion Birmingham Stallions, Memphis Showboats, and Michigan Panthers join the new league while the Philadelphia Stars, New Jersey Generals, New Orleans Breakers and Pittsburgh Maulers folded.
Both the XFL and the USFL had overlapping Houston based franchises: the Roughnecks (XFL) and the Gamblers (USFL). As a result of the merger, the XFL Roughnecks folded and the identity branding and coaching staff was transferred to the Gamblers. Despite the XFL identity, the new Roughnecks will align in the USFL Conference as the team is technically a continuation of the Gamblers.
Like the USFL and the XFL seasons prior, the 2024 season will span 10 weeks, beginning the weekend of March 30th, and ending the weekend of June 1st. Each UFL team will host 5 home games and play 5 road games. The schedule will feature home-and-home series against conference rivals, and one game against each team in the other conference.
At the end of the season, the top two teams from the XFL and USFL will advance to the playoffs, which will consist of an XFL and USFL Conference Championship. The winners of both conferences will advance to the UFL Championship, with the host venue revealed at a later date to take place on June 16th.
The UFL will carry over most of the XFL rules, such as not having to kick an extra point. The single point after will be replaced by a scrimmage play, which varies in point value depending on how far the scoring team chooses to take the snap from the goal line. A 2 yard attempt would yield 1 point, a 5 yard attempt yields 2 points, and a ten yard attempt yields 3 points. However, the league will use the USFL's kickoff rule, which resembles the traditional NFL kickoff instead of the XFL's hybrid kickoff formation.
The league's tv rights deal for the UFL will be held by Fox and ESPN, whom held the rights to the USFL and the XFL, respectively. NBC Sports, who was involved in broadcasting the USFL, will not be involved. Fox Sports' regular season coverage includes pairs of regional games in Weeks 4, 5, and 9 on Fox, 13 national games on Fox, and one game on FS1. The ESPN networks' regular season coverage includes 9 games on ABC, 10 games on ESPN, and one game on ESPN2. 63% of all UFL games will air on broadcast television (ABC or FOX) and 25% of the remaining games will air on the ESPN flagship network. ABC and Fox will also each air a semifinal game.
During the payoffs, ABC and FOX will air the USFL and XFL Conference Championships, while FOX will air the UFL Championship.
Each week's games will appear most recent at the top of the post. Final results will be updated following the conclusion of the games and listed in ascending order.
