7/21/15 --
Spokane Shock wide receiver Anthony Amos has been named the Riddell Offensive Player of the Week for Week 17.
His performance last week against Arizona was also his best game of the season, a key in Spokane's 52-45 upset over the three-time defending ArenaBowl champs. He hauled in 13 passes for 144 yards and 3 touchdowns, all of which were career highs. Amos also made a huge play from a misfired pass by QB Arvell Nelson, getting one hand on the football and hauling the pass for an 11-yard score that put the Shock up 45-32 in the middle of the fourth quarter.
The rookie from Middle Tennessee State has grown throughout the 2015 season, especially filling in the big shoes left when starter Mike Washington went down with a season ending knee injury back on May 16th. Amos leads the Shock in receptions (94) and yards (1,038), and he is second on the team in receiving touchdowns (16). He also leads all AFL rookie wide receivers in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.
Amos beat out QB Tommy Grady (Jacksonville), QB Danny Southwick (Los Angeles), WR Roger Jackson (New Orleans), QB Randy Hippeard (Orlando), and WR Reggie Gray (San Jose) for OPotW.
The other AFL Week 13 winners include:
Riddell Defensive Player of the Week - DB Ken Fontenette, San Jose SaberCats
J Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week - DB Greg Reid, Jacksonville Sharks
Cutters Catch of the Week - WR Julius Gregory, Tampa Bay Storm
AFL Highlight of the Week - WR Reggie Gray, San Jose SaberCats
The Shock host division rival Portland on July 25th at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Kickoff is at 7 p.m PST and will be broadcast locally on SWX (Spokane) and CSNNW (Portland). Radio coverage will be on 700 ESPN (Spokane) and Freedom 970 (Portland).
