March 1, 2016 -- Following a month where the Trail Blazers went 9-2, Terry Stotts has been named Western Conference's February coach of the month by the NBA.
It is the third time Stotts has garnered the honor, winning the award in November 2013 and December 2014.
Of the Blazers' nine wins over the month of February, seven came against teams with winning records. Their 81.8 percent winning percentage is the third- highest in Blazers history. They began the month at 23-26, and emerged with a 32-28 record and crept into a tie for sixth place in the conference playoff race. They play 10 of their 16 games in March on the road.
The Celtics' Brad Stevens was named the Eastern Conference coach of the month for February. The Blazers play at Boston on March 2.
Stotts, in his fourth season as head coach of the Blazers, has compiled a 170-136 mark with the Blazers during the regular season and 6-10 during the playoffs. He served stints as head man of the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks. His overall coaching mark is 253-276 during the regular season and 7-14 in the playoffs.
The Blazers are battling with the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Utah Jazz for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Stotts has shown big improvements in the areas of player development and not letting himself be out coached by the opposing coach. the success the team is having this year will probably earn him a contract extension.
