1.24.17 -
The Indoor Football League announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with YouTube to live stream all IFL games during the 2017 season - for free.
The IFL previously streamed its games from IFLLive.tv, powered by EverSport.tv. EverSport was an on-demand streaming service, requiring fans to pay for a 24-hour viewing pass, a 30-day viewing pass, or a complete season pass. Moving from EverSport to YouTube is a large step for the IFL, providing all of its games for free to the general public and allowing fans to keep money in their pockets.
All games will be streamed from the IFL's official YouTube Channel, YouTube.com/IndoorFootballLeague. Not only will the IFL's channel host all the live games, but will also feature on-demand and archive games in case fans were unable to watch the game live. The channel will also become more active with weekly highlights and exclusive digital video content.
"Utilizing the YouTube platform makes it easier than ever for our fans to enjoy our games and remain highly engaged in all aspects of the IFL," said Commissioner Michael Allshouse said in the league's announcement. "We continue to see a strong desire for more digital video content and this partnership gives football fans around the country even more access to our thrilling sport."
With the partnership, the IFL becomes the first indoor football league to stream an entire season on YouTube. Although the Arena Football League has streamed games in the past on UStream and NiFTyTV, it never partnered with YouTube.
The move comes as a potential advantage for the IFL, as the AFL is rumored not to stream games on ESPN3 in 2017. Combined with limiting fans access to games only through CBS Sports Network and a potential pay-subscription via Monumental Sports Network, the YouTube Partnership gives the IFL a better platform to gain new fans and grow the product of indoor football.
Fans will get the chance to stream their first game with the 2017 season opener on Thursday, February 16 when the Nebraska Danger take on the expansion Salt Lake Screaming Eagles at 9 p.m (EST)/6 p.m. (PST).

Very innovative. This is the type of outreach to fans which is going to lift up the IFL higher than the other indoor/arena leagues. Let's face it; youtube is much more available than obscure cable channels like CBS Sports Network.

HOORAY! I was wanting to watch the IFL but that pass was overpriced IMO. I'm watching the IFL for sure now.

Watched last night on YouTube. Other than the locker room shot with lots of cussing at halftime I think that they are going to have a great product for fans to enjoy all season.

I caught parts of the game last night. The HD quality was fantastic and they did a good job broadcasting the game. I'm not sure how I feel about the locker room bit, but it'll definitely be a good way to watch the games.

Well the broadcast quality of the Arizona game was good. The Cedar Rapids game and the Nighthawks had terrible quality streams. So a 2-2 record. Hope they can improve from that.

I caught some of the Screaming Eagles game. I thought the quality was pretty good. YouTube live streams tend to work a little less effectively than simply playing a video. We'll have to see how the Crush and Empire streams work out this coming week.
