2/12/17 --
BREAKING: The Trail Blazers today have traded center/forward Mason Plumlee to the Denver Nuggets for center Jusef Nurkic, per a report of The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.
As part of the deal the Blazers will receive a 2017 first round draft pick from the Nuggets, which actually is the first round pick from the Memphis Grizzles which the Nuggets had previously received via trade. The Blazers will send their 2018 second round pick to the Nuggets.
Obtaining the Grizzlies' first round selection will give the Blazers three opening round picks in 2017. They will have their own, the Cleveland Cavaliers' selection, and now the Grizzlies' pick.
Nurkic, in his third season, is a 7'0", 280 pound defensive-minded center. He is averaging
8.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and0.8 blocks per game in just under 18 minutes this season. For his career, he has posted marks of 7.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. He is a native of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Plumlee has been the Blazers starting center since being acquired in a draft day trade from the New Jersey Nets in 2015. He is in the fourth and final season of his rookie contract. He's averaging 11.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.2 blocks per game for the Blazers in just over 28 minutes per game. Plumlee is considered one of the best passing centers in the league. He has two brothers -- Marshall and Miles -- who also play in the NBA.
There has been no formal word from the Blazers as to when Nurkic will join the Blazers. However, completion of the trade is dependent upon each player passing a physical.
