2/26/17 --
PHOENIX, AZ - Travis Partridge's nine-yard touchdown strike to Roland Brady with just under four minutes to go proved to be all that was needed as the Iowa Barnstormers turned back the Arizona Rattlers this afternoon, 51-47.
It was a back-and-forth contest for much of the game. Trailing 14-6 at the end of the first quarter, the Barnstormers pulled to within a point on a two-yard run by Ryan Balentine. They took the lead five minutes later when Partridge hit Balentine for a 20-yard touchdown. They increaded their lead to 27-14 on an eight-yard pass from Patridge to Roland with 48 seconds remaining in the half.
The Rattlers trailed 44-35 early in the fourth quarter. They were able to assume the lead with a pair of touchdowns; a 20-yard run by quarterback Darron Thomas, and a 21 yard pass from Thomas to Ketrich Harmon at the 6:30 mark.
Partridge finished 15 of 19 for 153 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 25 yards and a score. Balentine, who rushed nine times for 19 yards and two touchdowns, led the Barnstormers' receiving corps with 58 yards on five receptions with a touchdown. Roland had five catches for 45 yards to go with his two touchdowns. Jamie Bender recorded nine tackles to lead Iowa, while Matt Goldsmith and Javicz Jones each had an interception.
Thomas went 20 of 36 for 189 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed seven times for 61 yards and a touchdown. Former Colorado Crush receiver Demarius Washington caught four balls for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Anthony Amos had five receptions for 46 yards and a score. Harmon, Diondre Borel and Cody Galea each added a touchdown catch. Adam Sauder led the Rattlers with nine tackles.
Each team is on a bye for week 3. The Barnstormers (1-1) will visit the Green Bay Blizzard (1-1) on March 12 for a 1:05 p.m. (pacific) kickoff. The Rattlers (0-2) will host the Crush (0-1) on March 11 at 5 p.m. (pacific). Both games, as well as all of the leagues games this season are available for streaming on the IFL's Youtube channel.
