Nicolas Batum found a way to recognize the life of South African President Nelson Mandella during the Blazers home game on December 6 against the Jazz. Batum wrote the number "46664" and "RIP Madiba" on his game shoes. The number stands for Mr. Mandela's prison number 46, while the latter three digits stand for June (12) 1964 when he was sentenced for life by a South African judge for sabotage in the fight against apartheid. Mandela was releasedin 1990 after 27 years in prison. He passed away December 5. The Blazers beat the Jazz Friday night, 130-98.
